Scientist (S2501) - 5 Posts (UR-2, EWS-1, OBC-1, SC-1)

  • Age Limit: 32 years for UR/EWS, 35 years for OBC, 37 years for SC.
  • Essential Educational Qualification: Ph.D. (Science) submitted in Chemistry / Chemical Sciences or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualification and/or Experience: Post-doctoral and/or industrial experience / Publications in SCI Journals / Patents in areas such as Electrochemical hydrogen generation, Energy storage systems (Li-ion, Na-ion, Solid state, Redox Flow batteries, supercapacitors), Process development for specialty chemicals & coating techniques (electroplating, electrochemical processes), Electrochemical synthesis of organic molecules, Electrochemical process development for metal extraction, Polymer Membrane development for Electrochemical Energy devices, CO2 Capture, Utilization, Conversion, Storage (CCUS), Electrochemical water treatment processes. Experience in Product Development/Process Development/Technology innovation/Applied Technology/Translational research.
  • Job Requirements: Involvement in divisional activities, multi-disciplinary research programs, project proposal preparation for funding, handling basic and advanced Chemistry courses for undergraduate/Ph.D students.

Scientist (S2502) - 1 Post (SC-1) [Posting at Mandapam Unit]

  • Age Limit: 37 years for SC.
  • Essential Educational Qualification: Ph.D. (Science) submitted in Chemistry / Chemical Sciences or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualification and/or Experience: Post-doctoral and/or industrial experience / Publications in SCI Journals / Patents in areas such as Atmospheric corrosion, marine corrosion and electrochemical aspects of corrosion with protection methodologies. Experience in Product Development/Process Development/Technology innovation/Applied Technology/Translational research.
  • Job Requirements: R&D in corrosion monitoring, evaluation, and interpretation of field data, sacrificial anodes, and impressed current cathodic protection systems.

Scientist (S2503) - 3 Posts (UR-2, SC-1)

  • Age Limit: 32 years for UR, 37 years for SC.
  • Essential Educational Qualification: M.E/M.Tech in Chemical Engineering / Technology or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualification and/or Experience: Research and/or industrial experience / Publications in SCI Journals / Patents in areas such as Design, simulation, modelling, experimental studies in electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems (Battery, Fuel Cell, Electrolyser), Development of high throughput catalyst materials/electrode materials/membranes, Electrochemical reactor design/scale-up/process optimization (chemical synthesis, drinking water & wastewater treatment, CO2 Capture), Simulation and analysis of fluid flow/heat transfer/chemical reactions (proficiency in CFD, MATLAB/Python), Techno-economic evaluation and analysis of electrochemical energy storage systems/assessment of resources & storage technologies / AI-ML based process & system design.   • Essential Educational Qualification: M.E/M.Tech in Metallurgical / Material Science/Engineering / Technology or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualification and/or Experience: Research and/or industrial experience / Publications in SCI Journals / Patents in areas such as Electrometallurgy / electro winning of metals, Surface Engineering & coating technology of smart /functional coatings, Development of metal powders for additive manufacturing, Converting electronic wastes into value-added products (recovery of metals from spent lithium batteries/electronic waste). Experience in Product Development/Process Development/Technology innovation/Applied Technology/Translational research.

Scientist (S2505) - 2 Posts (UR-1, OBC-1)

  • Essential Educational Qualification: M.E/M.Tech in Thermal/Fluid Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (with specialization in Thermal/Fluid Engineering) or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualification and/or Experience: Research and/or industrial experience / Publications in SCI Journals / Patents in areas such as Development of computational models (CFD, finite element, finite volume) for high-temperature electrolysis, Design and optimisation of electrolysis cells, Designing and analyzing energy systems (compressors, chillers, pressure vessels, piping, CAD, FEA, MATLAB/Python).   • Essential Educational Qualification: Ph.D (Science) submitted in Marine Biology / Marine Microbiology / Marine Sciences or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualification and/or Experience: Post-doctoral and/or industrial experience / Publications in SCI Journals / Patents in areas such as Microbial corrosion aspects of metals/materials, biofouling, marine corrosion and control method. Experience in Product Development/Process Development/Technology innovation/Applied Technology/Translational research.
  • Job Requirements: R&D in Corrosion/Marine Biology/Marine Sciences and contributing to CSIR's large multi-disciplinary research programs, project proposal preparation for funding, handling basic and advanced courses from their relevant area for undergraduate/Ph.D students.

General Information and Conditions

Benefits under Council Service

  • Posts carry usual allowances (Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TRA)) as admissible to central government employees.
  • Entitlement to accommodation as per CSIR (Residence Allotment) Rules, subject to availability. HRA will not be provided if council or government accommodation is utilized.
  • Reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Leave Travel Concession, and Children's Education Allowances are also available as per CSIR/Govt. of India (GoI) Rules.
  • Selected candidates will be governed by the 'National Pension System' or Extant Pension System.

Other Conditions

  • Citizenship: Applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must fulfill essential requirements and other specified conditions by the last date of online application. Mere possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview call.
  • Screening: A duly constituted Screening Committee will adopt its own criteria for short-listing candidates. Applicants must provide all relevant information and documentation.
  • Ph.D. (submitted) candidates: Must include valid documentary proof of thesis submission date.
  • NOC: Applicants currently working in CSIR/Government Organizations/Autonomous Bodies/Statutory Bodies/Universities/PSUs must inform their department and upload a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC).
  • Rejection: Applications not duly filled, without required certificates/documents, or with incorrect/false information will be rejected.
  • Equivalence of Qualifications: If claiming a qualification as equivalent, provide an order/notification recognizing this equivalence.
  • Experience: The period of experience will be counted after acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualifications.
  • Age Determination: The upper age limit, qualifications, and experience will be determined as on the last date of submission of online application (2026-01-12).
  • PwBD: Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) fulfilling eligibility conditions are encouraged to apply. Age relaxation shall be applicable.
  • Abroad Candidates: Candidates residing abroad may request to attend the interview online or have their candidature considered in-absentia.

  • Posting: Selected candidates are liable to be posted in CECRI headquarters at Karaikudi or its unit at Chennai or Mandapam, and may be required to work in shifts/during odd hours.

Age Limit & Relaxations

  • Scheduled Caste [SC]/ Scheduled Tribe [ST]: 05 years relaxation.
  • Other Backward Class [OBC (NCL)]: 03 years relaxation.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years relaxation (e.g., max 15 years for SC/ST PwBD, max 13 years for OBC PwBD).
  • Widows, Divorced Women and Women Judicially Separated: Up to 35 years (40 for SC/ST) relaxation with documentary evidence (Death Certificate/Judgment/Decree and an affidavit of non-remarriage).
  • Council/Government/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Employees: Up to 05 years relaxation (max 10 years for SC/ST, max 08 years for OBC) for those with 3 years continuous service in allied cadre.
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): Reservation as per DOPT OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt.(Res.), dated 31.01.2019, and other GoI instructions.

Mode of Selection

  • Candidates will be shortlisted by a Screening Committee based on criteria such as: higher educational qualifications, desirable qualifications and/or experience, patents/publications (SCI/Peer Reviewed journals, quality/number/authorship), research specialization/Ph.D discipline, written test/seminar, experience after essential qualifications, or any other methodology deemed fit.
  • Due weightage will be given to candidates with product development/technology innovation/translational research/applied technology experience during the recruitment process.

  • Application Steps: The application process involves three distinct steps: (i) Registration [online], (ii) Fee Submission [online] (if applicable), (iii) Online Application Submission.
  • Email ID: Candidates must create and keep active a valid email ID during the entire recruitment process.
  • Application Fee: Rs. 500/-. No fee is payable for SC/ST/PwBD/Women/Ex-Servicemen (relevant documents must be uploaded).
  • Documents Upload: Candidates are required to upload a recent passport size scanned colour photograph, signature, and relevant certificates (e-receipt/challan, Matriculation/10th Standard, educational, caste, NOC, experience, Ph.D synopsis/M.Tech dissertation, list of research publications, etc.).
  • CGPA/SGPA Conversion: Convert CGPA/SGPA/OGPA/DGPA/CPI grades to a percentage using the formula provided by the concerned Board/University/Institution and upload the conversion formula.
  • Multiple Applications: Only one application per postcode will be accepted. Candidates can apply for multiple postcodes if eligible, but must complete separate online application forms and pay fees (if applicable) for each.
  • Final Submission: Once the application form is finalized and payment details updated, candidates must click submit. No further modifications or amendments will be permitted after submission. Candidates should retain a printout of the completed application form.
  • No Hard Copy: Candidates should NOT send a hard copy of the application after submission (they will be requested to submit it at an appropriate time).
