Important Dates

  • Q1: What is the start date for application for CEN 05/2025?
    • A1: The application commencement date is 2025-10-31.
  • Q2: What is the last date for submitting online applications for CEN 05/2025?
    • A2: The last date for online application submission is 2025-11-30 at 23:59 hrs. The last date for payment of application fees is 2025-12-02.
  • Q3: What are the dates for application modification?
    • A3: The modification window will open after the application submission deadline and will be active from 2025-12-03 to 2025-12-12. If a candidate wishes to modify, change, or correct any details other than those in the 'Create Account' form (including email ID and mobile number) and chosen RRB, they can do so by paying a modification fee of Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) each time. (Please note: details in the 'Create Account' form and the 'chosen RRB' cannot be modified).
  • Q41: What is the cut-off date for age calculation for CEN-05/2025?
    • A41: The cut-off date for age calculation for CEN-05/2025 is 2026-01-01.
  • Q42: What is the cut-off date for educational qualification? Can candidates whose results are expected after 2025-11-30 apply?
    • A42: Candidates (existing/new) must possess their educational/technical qualifications by the application submission deadline, i.e., 2025-11-30. Candidates awaiting final results of the prescribed educational/technical qualifications are not eligible to apply.
  • Q43: What is the cut-off date for obtaining SC/ST/OBC/EWS status?
    • A43: For this CEN, the status of community/category for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Class-Non-Creamy Layer (NCL), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) will be considered for reservation and related benefits only if it is as per eligibility by the application submission deadline. No changes to this status will be considered thereafter. For complete information, refer to Para 8.0 (Vertical Reservation) of the detailed CEN. Candidates seeking reservation based on SC/ST/OBC/EWS status must ensure they have their caste/community certificate by the application submission deadline for this CEN. During document verification, such candidates must present their original caste/community certificate (in the prescribed format) valid until the application submission deadline, i.e., 2025-11-30.
  • Q15: What is the important date for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) certificate?
    • A15: Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates must possess their disability certificate by the last date of online application, i.e., 2025-11-30.

Application Process

  • Q5: What are the requirements for 'creating an account'?
    • A5: Candidates must have their mobile number and a valid and active personal email ID.
  • Q6: I have created an account for CEN 01/2025. Should I create another account for CEN 05/2025?
    • A6: No, candidates who have already created an account during any notification published by the Railway Recruitment Board in 2024 or 2025 do not need to create another account. They must log in using the same username and password to apply for CEN 05/2025.
  • Q7: What is the process for 'creating an account'?
    • A7: Under the 'Application Button', select 'Create Account', enter all requested information including the candidate's mobile number and email ID. An OTP will be sent to the candidate's mobile number and email. This must be entered and submitted.
  • Q8: Can I modify 'create account' details?
    • A8: No, candidates cannot modify any details of the 'Create Account' after creating the account.
  • Q9: What is the next process after 'creating an account'?
    • A9: After creating an account, log in to the rrbapply.gov.in portal using RRB credentials or Aadhaar credentials.
      • The online application comprises five main sections: Personal Details, Other Details, Educational Qualification, Profile Document Upload, Preview, and Submit.
      • The 12 details filled in the "Create Account" stage will already be visible in the application and cannot be modified. Start by entering all details, beginning with Personal Details. After entering Personal Details, save and proceed to the next section, and continue until you reach the final section, i.e., Preview and Submit, where the candidate finally submits the application for payment.
      • After the fee payment process is complete, the applicant will receive confirmation of successful payment via email and SMS. After this, the candidate can take a printout of the submitted application which will include the registration number.
    • Note: Candidates who have already applied for RRB notifications in 2024 or 2025 are advised to check the accuracy of their previously saved data on the personal details, other details, and educational qualification pages of the application module while applying for this CEN, and then proceed to submit the application for payment.
    • Details filled in the 'Create Account' form that cannot be modified include (Name, Father's Name, Mother's Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Matriculation Roll Number, Matriculation Certificate Number, Matriculation Certificate Date, Email ID, Mobile Number, and Aadhaar e-KYC details including the chosen RRB).
  • Q10: Can mobile be used for filling the application?
    • A10: Some features of the application module may not work correctly on mobile platforms. Therefore, using a desktop/laptop is advised.
  • Q11: What is the login process?
    • A11: Enter the registered mobile number and email ID, then the password and captcha, and submit.
  • Q25: Can I change my 'chosen RRB'?
    • A25: No, you cannot change the 'chosen RRB' after submitting the application.
  • Q26: Can I modify my details during the application process?
    • A26: Yes. Any details in the application, apart from those entered during 'create account', can be modified until the application is submitted and a registration number is generated.
  • Q28: Can I modify my application details after submitting the online application but before making payment?
    • A28: No, candidates cannot modify details after submitting the application.
    • Candidates are advised to re-check the veracity of the details filled by them in the application preview on the preference and preview and submit page. If all information is correct, then submit the application, as no changes can be made after submission for payment. If any information is found incorrect in the application preview, they can correct the wrong information on the relevant page of the application module by clicking the 'Modify' button, then re-preview the application for veracity and submit.
    • After submitting the application, pay the requisite examination fee and complete the payment process. If any candidate wishes to modify, change, or correct any details other than those filled in the 'Create Account' form and the chosen RRB, they can do so by paying a modification fee of Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) for each instance during the modification window from 2025-12-03 to 2025-12-12.
  • Q60: Only Matriculation is visible in the application. How do I add my other qualifications?
    • A60: Select the relevant qualification under 'Qualification', fill in the qualification details, and click the 'Add' button.
  • Q61: If only the month and year of passing are available on the matriculation and other qualification certificates, what date should I enter in the application?
    • A61: If a date is not available on any qualification certificate, enter the last date of the month. For example, May-2023 can be shown as 2023-05-31.
  • Q70: Where should I select the language for my exam?
    • A70: Candidates can choose a language from the list of available languages in the drop-down menu under the 'Personal Details' page.
  • Q71: Should I provide a preference order for all posts for which I am eligible?
    • A71: Yes, candidates are advised to indicate their preference order for as many posts as they are eligible for in the chosen RRB. Candidates who select partial preferences will only be considered for the specific railway zones and posts/categories chosen by them, provided vacancies are available at the time of allocation. If no preference is given for specific posts/categories, it will be considered as their unwillingness for those posts. Once preferences are submitted, they will be considered final and no changes will be allowed.
  • Q76: Can I take a printout of the application?
    • A76: Yes. Candidates can take a printout of their application after paying the examination fee.

Eligibility Criteria & Reservations

  • Q4: My final results are expected after 2025-11-30. Can I apply?
    • A4: No, candidates awaiting the final results of the prescribed educational/technical qualifications are not eligible to apply. Candidates must possess the prescribed educational/technical qualifications by or before the last date for submitting applications for this CEN.
  • Q19: I have undergone LASIK surgery. Am I eligible to apply?
    • A19: Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery are eligible for posts where medical standards B2 and C2 are required. Please refer to Note (b) of Para 3.0 of CEN 05/2025.
  • Q33: What is 'EBC'?
    • A33: 'EBC' stands for 'Economically Backward Class'. EBC candidates are those whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000/- (OR) are BPL cardholders (OR) hold any other certificate issued under a poverty alleviation program recognized by the Central Government (OR) hold Izzy MST issued by the Railways. Candidates should not confuse Economically Backward Class with Other Backward Class and Most Backward Class.
  • Q34: What benefits are given to EBC candidates?
    • A34: EBC candidates are given "fee concession". Refer to Para 7.3 of detailed CEN No. 05/2025.
  • Q35: What if an EBC candidate fails to submit the certificate?
    • A35: If a candidate has availed fee concession as EBC, they must possess a valid income certificate (as per Annexure III A of CEN) or a BPL card or any other certificate issued under a poverty alleviation program recognized by the Central Government/Izzy MST issued by the Railways before submitting the online application. This must be submitted during document verification, otherwise their candidature will be rejected. Refer to Para 7.3 of the detailed CEN for complete information.
  • Q36: Are there reserved posts for EBC?
    • A36: No. EBC candidates are only eligible for fee concession. No posts are reserved for EBC candidates.
  • Q37: Who is included in minorities?
    • A37: Minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis, as notified by the State/Union Territory from which the candidate belongs. This status is subject to any exemptions/removals/inclusions obtained up to the last date of online application submission.
  • Q38: What benefits do minority candidates get? What if a minority candidate fails to present an affidavit for claiming minority community during document verification?
    • A38: Minority candidates are only given 'fee concession' and are not eligible for reservation benefits. Minority candidates who claim examination fee concession must present an affidavit of minority community on a non-judicial stamp paper (as per Annexure IV of CEN) during document verification, otherwise their candidature will be rejected.
  • Q39: What are the criteria for claiming reservation under Economically Weaker Section (EWS)?
    • A39: Refer to Para 8.13 of detailed CEN No. 05/2025 available on RRB official websites.
  • Q40: Who is eligible for fee concession?
    • A40: Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, Women, Transgender, Minorities, and Economically Backward Class candidates are eligible for fee concession.
  • Q44: I have an engineering degree. Can I apply for JE posts?
    • A44: Yes. Higher qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech in the same discipline are also acceptable in place of a three-year diploma.
  • Q45: I have completed a two-year diploma. Am I eligible?
    • A45: No, only a three-year diploma in the relevant discipline will be accepted.
  • Q46: I am currently serving in the armed forces. Can I apply as an ex-serviceman?
    • A46: Armed Forces personnel who are serving in the armed forces until the last date of application submission must present an "Employment Certificate including probable date of discharge" as per Annexure VI (A), which is valid until the online application submission deadline for this CEN. Additionally, to claim ex-servicemen reservation benefits, all must submit a self-declaration form as per Annexure VI (A) during document verification.
  • Q47: I have already obtained civil employment as an ex-serviceman. Am I eligible for ex-servicemen benefits under this CEN?
    • A47: Ex-servicemen candidates who have availed benefits given to ex-servicemen for civil employment in Group 'C' and erstwhile Group 'D' (including Public Sector Undertakings, Autonomous Bodies/Statutory Bodies, Nationalized Banks, etc.) under the Central Government will only be given age relaxation benefit for another civil employment in a higher grade or cadre in Group 'C'/erstwhile Group 'D' under the Central Government. Such candidates will not be considered for vacancies reserved for ex-servicemen. Refer to Para 10.0 to 10.6 of detailed CEN No. 05/2025.
  • Q80: Are OBCs included in the State List eligible for OBC-NCL reservation?
    • A80: OBCs included in the State List, but not included in the Central List (as per the latest list on http://www.ncbc.nic.in), are not eligible to claim reservation.

Document Uploads

  • Q32: I am unable to upload my caste certificate.
    • A32: Check if the scanned document is in 'PDF' format and its size is less than 400 KB.
  • Q63: What all documents need to be uploaded?
    • A63: All candidates must upload their scanned signatures as per the prescribed specifications. SC/ST candidates must upload their caste certificate to avail the free travel pass.
  • Q64: What should be the size of the uploaded documents?
    • A64: The size of the scanned documents to be uploaded is as follows:
      1. Caste Certificate: Caste certificate must be in PDF format, up to 400 KB.
      2. Signature: Signature must be at a minimum of 100 DPI resolution, dimensions: minimum 140 pixels (width) x 60 pixels (height), in JPG/JPEG format, 30 KB to 49 KB. The scanned signature must be located within the specified scan box on the application form. Box size: 35 mm (width) x 20 mm (height). The signature image should be centered within this box. For details, refer to Para 14.5.1 of CEN No. 05/2025.
  • Q77: What is the process for uploading a live photo?
    • A77: Candidates will need to take their live photo using a webcam or smartphone front camera during the application process. Uploading pre-existing photos is not allowed. Follow the on-screen guidelines for posture, lighting, environment, and attire. To use a smartphone, scan the QR code, log in using the registered mobile number, user ID, password, and OTP.
    • Comprehensive guidelines for taking a live photo during the application are provided below:
      • a) Candidates are not required to upload pre-existing photos while applying.
      • b) The application module is designed to take a live photo of the candidate while filling the application form.
      • c) The live photo can be taken using a webcam or the front camera of a mobile phone (screen-side camera).
      • d) Ensure you do not wear white clothes to maintain contrast with the background; dark colors are preferable.
      • e) For this, the candidate must stand or sit in front of the camera as instructed by the application module and carefully follow the instructions given below:
        • Before taking the photo, ensure the camera is at eye level.
        • Stand straight in front of the camera with a neutral expression and look directly forward.
        • Ensure your entire face is clearly visible and centered within the frame displayed by the application module.
        • Ensure your face is neither too close nor too far from the camera, and no part of your head or face is outside the prescribed frame.
        • Do not wear a hat, mask, or glasses while taking the photo.
        • Candidates can preview their taken photo and retake it if they are not satisfied with the photo, until their application is submitted.
    • Applications with photos that do not follow these guidelines may be rejected.
    • The candidate's face must match the photo submitted with the application throughout the recruitment process.
    • Important Note: Candidates should not attempt to take a picture of an existing printed or digital photo. Any application submitting such a photo will be immediately rejected. For detailed information, please refer to Para 14.4 of Central Information Office No. 05/2025.
  • Q78: What is the process for uploading signatures? What type of signatures should be uploaded?
    • A78: Candidates must upload a scanned copy of their signature as per the specifications given below:
      • The signature must be written by the candidate only.
      • Use a black ink pen on white paper.
      • The signature should be in running handwriting (e.g., cursive/joined letters), not in block or separate letters. The signature should be clear, legible, and fully visible within the scanned area.
    • Specifications for Signature:
      • Scan the signed paper at a minimum of 100 DPI resolution.
      • Image file format: only JPG/JPEG
      • File size: between 30 KB and 49 KB
      • Image dimensions: minimum 140 pixels (width) x 60 pixels (height)
      • The scanned signature must be located within the specified scan box on the application form: Box size: 35 mm (width) x 20 mm (height). The signature image should be centered within this box.

Fees & Refund

  • Q58: Who is eligible for "Fee Refund"?
    • A58: Only candidates who participate in the first stage CBT are eligible for "Fee Refund" (after deduction of bank charges) as per Para 7.4 of detailed CEN No. 05/2025. Please note that the modification fee will not be refunded.
  • Q59: Please tell me about RRB's "Fee Refund Policy".
    • A59: Fee Refund Policy: By making payment, the applicant accepts and agrees that the payment made is non-refundable and the applicant cannot initiate a chargeback under any circumstances. Fee refund will apply only to those candidates (as per Para 7.4 of detailed CEN) who appear in the first stage CBT. Examination fees will not be refunded for incorrect, incomplete, or rejected applications and for absence in the first stage CBT.
  • Q65: How can I pay the fee?
    • A65: Fee payment can only be made online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI services. In addition to the fee, processing charges and GST will also be levied from the candidate.
  • Q66: How much fee do I have to pay?
    • A66: Refer to Para 7.0 of Centralized Information Notification No. 05/2025.
  • Q74: If my application is rejected, will my paid fee be refunded?
    • A74: No fee will be refunded if the application is rejected.

Examination Details

  • Q12: How many pay-levels are there in CEN 05/2025?
    • A12: There is only one pay-level (Level-6) in CEN 05/2025.
  • Q48: What is the exam group and how to select it?
    • A48: A candidate possessing more than one minimum educational qualification may match different examination groups. They can select one examination group provided their educational qualification matches the post for which they have chosen. However, these candidates will be eligible for all chosen posts as per their prescribed minimum educational qualification.
  • Q67: What are the stages of the recruitment process and how can I know the schedule?
    • A67: The recruitment process consists of Stage-I Computer Based Test (CBT), Stage-II Computer Based Test (CBT), Document Verification (DV), and Medical Examination (ME). Information regarding the schedule and venue of the CBT will be provided to eligible candidates through the RRB website, SMS, and email in due course. Requests for postponement of any stage of the CBT or change in venue, date, and shift will not be considered under any circumstances.
  • Q68: What is the pattern and syllabus of CBT?
    • A68: Please refer to Para-13.
  • Q69: Will there be negative marking?
    • A69: Yes, there will be negative marking at the rate of 1/3 mark for each wrong answer in CBT.

Identity & Verification

  • Q20: Why is Digilocker/Aadhaar verification necessary?
    • A20: Digilocker/Aadhaar verification is essential for smooth processing in various stages of recruitment for candidates. Additionally, to ensure the authenticity of candidature and prevent impersonation during CBT, RRBs will not share Aadhaar details with any third party or use them for any purpose other than the objectives of this CEN. If applicants verify their identity and other primary details with alternative photo ID proofs, their scrutiny will be more stringent and detailed at each stage of the recruitment process.
  • Q21: If I don't have Aadhaar, what should I do?
    • A21: Candidates are advised in their own interest to verify their identity using Digilocker or Aadhaar during the 'Create Account' stage. If they miss this stage, they can authenticate by using the 'Verify Aadhaar' facility during the online application details filling process and providing their Aadhaar details. This process must be completed before submitting the application for a specific CEN. This will enable a smooth process for candidates in various stages of recruitment. If applicants verify their identity and other primary details with alternative photo ID proofs, their scrutiny will be quite stringent and detailed at each stage of the recruitment process.
  • Q22: If I have already changed my name, what documents should I submit?
    • A22: Applicants must possess a Gazette Notification or relevant legal document for name change and be ready to present it when requested during the recruitment process. This must be presented at the time of document verification. Applicants must also fill in both their original name and changed name during 'Create Account'. In such cases, both names will appear on the application.
  • Q57: My Date of Birth in Matriculation Certificate differs from Aadhaar/other ID. Which DOB should I enter in the application?
    • A57: Before application submission, the Date of Birth in Aadhaar or other ID proofs should be corrected. However, only the Date of Birth as per the Matriculation certificate should be entered in the application.

  • Q13: How to apply?
    • A13: For detailed information on how to apply, please refer to Para 14.1 to 14.5.2. Candidates should carefully read all information and instructions given in the detailed CEN before filling the online application to avoid mistakes.
  • Q14: What is the use of the application registration number?
    • A14: Candidates are advised to note down their application registration number until the completion of the recruitment process. The registration number will be used for further stages of the recruitment process and for correspondence with RRBs. Refer to Para 16.0 (b) (iv) of detailed CEN 05/2025.
  • Q23: If I forgot my password to log in to my account, what should I do?
    • A23: Click on the 'Forgot Password' option on the login page. Enter your registered email or mobile number, along with your date of birth. The modified password will be sent to the candidate's registered email address. After logging in using the modified password sent to your registered email, candidates can create a new password by going to the 'Change Password' option available on the top right side of the online application page.
  • Q24: Can I change my password?
    • A24: Yes. Candidates must first log in using their old password. After logging in, candidates can change their old password by going to the 'Change Password' option available on the top right side of the online application page.
  • Q27: I wrongly mentioned my community/caste in the application. Can I modify it after application submission?
    • A27: Yes, modification is allowed only by paying the prescribed fee during the modification period. However, after the modification period ends, details cannot be edited. During the document verification process, you must present your community and caste details as per the online application, otherwise your candidature will be considered only under the "Unreserved" category, provided you meet all eligibility criteria.
  • Q29: Who is eligible for 'Free Travel Authority' (Free Railway Pass)?
    • A29: Only Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates can avail the 'Free Travel Authority' (Free Railway Pass).
  • Q30: How can I obtain the "Free Travel Authority" (Free Railway Pass)?
    • A30: This facility is available only for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates. While filling the online application, such candidates must select "Yes" under the question "Do you want to avail free rail travel pass for the exam?" and fill in the "Nearest Railway Station". It is the responsibility of candidates availing free travel authority to provide the correct railway station name in the online application, otherwise their travel authority may be rejected while obtaining reservation. They must also upload their caste certificate.
  • Q31: How can I avail the free travel facility?
    • A31: For eligible Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, the free travel authority (sleeper class railway pass) will be printed on their city intimation slip/e-call letter itself. They will be allowed to book train reservations by submitting a self-attested copy of their city intimation slip/e-call letter and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe certificate at the ticket booking counter. For more information, refer to Para 19:0 (e) of Central Employment Notification No. 05/2025.
  • Q49: Who needs to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) during document verification?
    • A49: Candidates working in any Central/State Government department or Public Sector Undertakings (including those undergoing induction training/probation) can directly apply to RRBs after duly informing their employer. Selected candidates will have to submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer on the date of document verification, failing which their candidature will be cancelled. It is entirely the candidate's responsibility to submit the No Objection Certificate from their current employer during document verification/panelization/appointment/within the stipulated time. Failure to do so will result in their candidature/panelization/appointment being rejected and cancelled. Please refer to Para 12.0 of the notification.
  • Q50: After submitting the application, I have joined a Central/State Government/Public Sector Undertaking. Do I need to submit a No Objection Certificate during document verification?
    • A50: Yes. Even if you have joined any Central/State Government/Public Sector Undertaking after submitting the application, you are still required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) during document verification, otherwise your candidature/panel will be cancelled.
  • Q51: What is the benchmark degree of disability for PwBD?
    • A51: For a person to be considered as having a Benchmark Disability (PwBD), the disability must be 40% or more.
  • Q52: Can PwBD candidates apply for unreserved vacancies?
    • A52: The suitability or unsuitability of PwBD for a post is indicated in the 'Suitability for Benchmark Persons with Disabilities' column, against each post, in the Post Criteria Table (Annexure-A), with details of the specified sub-category of disability.
  • Q53: How can I know about suitability for different disabilities for various posts?
    • A53: The suitability or unsuitability of disability for a post is indicated in the 'Suitability for Benchmark Persons with Disabilities' column, against each post, in the Post Criteria Table (Annexure-A), with details of the specified sub-category of disability.
  • Q54: I am a PwBD candidate, do I need a scribe for CBT?
    • A54: In the case of persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) in the categories of Visual Impairment, Locomotor Disability (both hands affected-BA) and Cerebral Palsy, if the person wishes, they will be provided with a scribe facility.
      • In the case of other categories of benchmark disabilities, a scribe facility may be allowed upon presentation of a certificate from the Chief Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent of a Government Health Service stating that the concerned person is physically unable to write and requires a scribe to write on their behalf for the examination.
      • Candidates can avail scribe assistance after presenting the certificate as per Annexure V(G) and undertaking as per Annexure V(D) at the examination center.
      • Candidates who are eligible for a scribe (as mentioned above) and wish to avail the scribe facility must select the scribe option in their online application. Eligible candidates for a scribe must arrange for the scribe at their own expense.
  • Q55: How can eligible candidates avail the scribe facility in CBT?
    • A55: Eligible candidates for a scribe must ensure that their scribe is registered with RRB on rrbapply.gov.in (refer to Para 11.7.7 regarding scribe registration in detailed CEN-05/2025). They must log in to the application portal during the 5-day period available immediately after the modification window closes and provide the scribe's details.
      • Enter your scribe's One-Time Registration (OTR) number. An OTP will be sent to your scribe's registered mobile number.
      • To confirm the scribe, the OTP sent to the scribe's registered mobile number must be entered.
  • Q56: What is the scribe registration process?
    • A56: a) Any person who has been appointed as a scribe by a scribe-eligible candidate must register on the RRB portal rrbapply.gov.in -> Home Page -> Scribe Registration.
      • b) After successful registration, an OTR number will be generated and sent to the scribe's registered mobile number.
      • c) Only registered scribes with a valid OTR number will be allowed to provide their services as a scribe.

  • Q62: If the district/state has been bifurcated, which district/state should I mention?
