Notice on Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) for Recruitment of Various NTPC Graduate Posts (CEN 05/2024)

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have issued special instructions for candidates appearing for the Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST).

Test Schedule

  • Date of CBTST: 28th December, 2025
  • City Intimation Slip: Already live and available for candidates.

Typing Requirements

  • Language Options: Candidates can type in either English or Hindi. English is the default language.
  • Minimum Words to Type: Candidates must type at least 300 words in English or 250 words in Hindi.
  • Hindi Fonts: Candidates opting for Hindi must be familiar with Krutidev or Mangal font.

Exam Session Structure

The exam session is divided into three parts:

  1. Warm-up: A one-minute typing practice session to familiarize with the keyboard.
  2. Break: A 30-second break.
  3. Typing Test: A 10-minute test which will be evaluated.

Evaluation and Qualification Criteria

  • To qualify, candidates must type the entire passage at least once within the 10-minute duration. Candidates who complete the passage can retype it from the beginning.
  • Transcripts of candidates who do not type the minimum required words (300 in English or 250 in Hindi) will not be evaluated.
  • Mistakes are classified as 'full mistakes' and 'half mistakes'. An allowance of 5% of the total words typed will be ignored.
  • Total Mistakes Calculation: No. of full mistakes + (No. of half mistakes / 2)
  • Final Count of Mistakes: Total Mistakes - 5% of total words typed

Typing Speed Calculation

The typing speed will be calculated using the following formula:

  • Formula: Typing Speed = [No. of total words typed - (Final count of mistakes x 10)] / Time (10 minutes)
  • Example: A candidate typing 400 words with 10 final mistakes in 10 minutes will have a speed of [400 - (10 x 10)] / 10 = 300 / 10 = 30 w.p.m.

Minimum Speed Requirement

  • English: 30 words per minute (w.p.m)
  • Hindi: 25 words per minute (w.p.m)

Important Instructions

  • The use of editing tools to correct mistakes is not permitted.
  • Candidates are advised to refer only to the official websites of RRBs for the latest updates.
  • Beware of touts offering jobs through illegal means. RRB selections are based purely on merit in the Computer Based Test (CBT).
