Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Cut-off Date for Age Calculation: 2026-01-01
  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 33 years
  • Date of Birth Range (inclusive): 02.01.1993 to 01.01.2008 for Unreserved (UR)/Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates.

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) (OBC-NCL): 3 years
  • Ex-Servicemen (UR/EWS): 3 years (after deducting service period)
  • Ex-Servicemen (OBC-NCL): 6 years (after deducting service period)
  • Ex-Servicemen (SC/ST): 8 years (after deducting service period)
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) (UR/EWS): 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC-NCL): 13 years
  • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
  • Railway Employees (Group 'C' & 'D' with minimum 3 years of service): UR/EWS (40 years), OBC-NCL (43 years), SC/ST (45 years)
  • Women (Widows, Divorced, Judicially Separated and not remarried): UR/EWS (35 years), OBC-NCL (38 years), SC/ST (40 years)

Educational Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess all prescribed educational/technical qualifications by the closing date of application (2025-11-30). Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible.
  • Junior Engineer (various categories): A three-year Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation & Control, Communication, Computer Science, Civil) or a combination of basic streams of these disciplines from a recognized university/institute. B.E./B.Tech in the same subject is also accepted. (Refer to Annexure-A for post-wise specific qualifications).
  • Depot Material Superintendent: A three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized university/institute. B.E./B.Tech in any discipline is also accepted.
  • Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant: A B.Sc. degree with Physics and Chemistry (minimum 45% marks) from a recognized university/institute.

Medical Standards

  • Candidates must pass the prescribed medical fitness tests conducted by the Railway Administration for the selected posts.
  • Visual acuity standards (A-3, B-1, C-1) are detailed in the notification.
  • Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery may be eligible for medical standard B-1, subject to specific conditions mentioned in the notification (Page 11).
  • Ex-servicemen have separate medical standards as per Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM).

Nationality/Citizenship

Candidates must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962-01-01 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Application Process

Online Application

  • Applications must be submitted online only through the official Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) websites.
  • Candidates must create an account. Details filled during account creation (mobile number, email ID) cannot be modified later.
  • Candidates are advised to thoroughly read the CEN and instructions before applying.
  • Only one application per RRB is allowed. Multiple applications will lead to rejection.

Application Fee

  • For all candidates (except reserved categories below): Rs. 500/-. An amount of Rs. 400/- will be refunded after appearing in CBT-I.
  • For SC/ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Women, Transgender, Minorities, and Economically Backward Classes (EBC): Rs. 250/-. This fee will be fully refunded after appearing in CBT-I.
  • Payment Method: Online only (Internet banking, Debit/Credit Card, UPI).

Modification Window

  • Candidates can modify their application (except details filled in the 'Create Account' form and chosen RRB) during the modification window (2025-12-03 to 2025-12-12).
  • A non-refundable modification fee of Rs. 250/- will be charged for each modification.
  • No requests for modification will be entertained after 2025-12-12.

Photo & Signature Guidelines

  • Live Photo Capturing: A live photo must be captured during the application process using a webcam or mobile phone's front camera. Ensure a non-white, dark background. The face must be clear, centered, and without caps, masks, or glasses. Avoid taking photos too close or too far.
  • Signature: A scanned copy of the candidate's signature is required. It must be in JPG/JPEG format, between 30KB and 49KB, with minimum dimensions of 140x60 pixels. The signature must be in black ink on white paper, in straight handwriting (not cursive or capital letters), and clearly visible within the designated box.

Scribe Assistance

  • Eligible PwBD candidates (blind, locomotor disability affecting both arms, cerebral palsy, or other specified conditions with relevant certificates) may avail scribe assistance.
  • Candidates with less than 40% disability but with difficulty in writing may also avail scribe assistance under specific conditions.
  • Scribes must be registered on rrbapply.gov.in and their educational qualification must be lower than the candidate's.
  • Candidates opting for a scribe must submit their scribe details between 2025-12-13 and 2025-12-17.
  • A compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour will be provided to eligible candidates using a scribe or opting for compensatory time.

Reservation Policies

Vertical Reservation

  • Provisions for vertical reservation apply to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) (OBC-NCL), wherever applicable.

Horizontal Reservation

  • Provisions for horizontal reservation apply to Ex-Servicemen (Ex-SM) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

EWS/OBC/SC/ST Certificates

  • EWS Certificate: Must be for the financial year 2024-25, issued by a competent authority before the last date of application, with a gross annual family income below Rs. 8 lakh and meeting specified asset criteria. (Refer to Annexure III).
  • OBC-NCL Certificate: Must be in the prescribed format (Annexure II) and issued by a competent authority on or after 2025-04-01 but not after the last date of application. Candidates must belong to the Central List of OBCs.
  • SC/ST Certificate: Must be in the prescribed format (Annexure I).
  • Candidates seeking reservation benefits must submit original certificates during Document Verification.

Recruitment Process

Computer Based Test (CBT) - Stage I

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD with scribe)
  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Nature: Screening test, objective type with multiple-choice questions.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, General Science (Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences – up to CBSE 10th standard).
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS - 40%, OBC-NCL - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 25%. A 2% relaxation may apply to PwBD candidates for reserved vacancies if suitable candidates are unavailable.

Computer Based Test (CBT) - Stage II

  • Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted 15 times the number of community-wise vacancies based on their normalized marks in CBT-I.
  • Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for eligible PwBD with scribe)
  • Number of Questions: 150
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
  • Subjects: General Awareness (15 marks), Physics & Chemistry (15 marks), Basics of Computer & Applications (10 marks), Basics of Environment & Pollution Control (10 marks), Technical Abilities (100 marks) based on the relevant engineering syllabus (Annexure-VII A, B, C, D, E).
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: Same as CBT-I.
  • Virtual Calculator: Will be provided on the computer monitor during the exam.

Document Verification (DV)

  • Candidates will be shortlisted for DV at a 1:1 ratio with vacancies, based on their CBT-II scores and preference.
  • Candidates must present all original documents along with self-attested photocopies during DV.

Medical Examination (ME)

  • Selected candidates must pass the prescribed medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration.

Normalization of Marks

  • Marks obtained in multi-session CBTs will be normalized.
  • A Merit Index will be calculated to create a common benchmark for candidates from different exam groups.

Tie-breaking Rule

  • If two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate will be given preference.
  • If age is also the same, candidates will be ranked based on the alphabetical order of their names.

Important Instructions

  • General Guidelines: Candidates are advised to carefully read the detailed CEN. All communications will be sent to the registered mobile number and email ID. No changes to exam date/city/shift will be permitted.
  • Prohibited Items: Mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth devices, calculators, books, pens, paper, etc., are strictly prohibited in the examination hall. Only the e-call letter is allowed inside.
  • Authentic Information: Candidates should only refer to the official RRB websites for authentic information and updates. Beware of fake websites and touts.
  • Consequences of Unfair Means: Any candidate found using unfair means or submitting false information at any stage will be disqualified and debarred from all future RRB/RRC examinations, and legal action may be initiated.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC): Candidates employed in Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) must inform their employer and produce an NOC at the time of Document Verification.
