Introduction

This notice, published by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) under the Government of India, announces the Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to the posts of Constable (General Duty) in various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and SSF, and Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles (AR) for the year 2026. The scheme is formulated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and SSC.

Posts and Recruitment Process

Recruitment is for Constable (General Duty) in Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Secretariat Security Force (SSF), and Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles (AR).

The recruitment process will consist of:

  1. Computer Based Examination (CBE)
  2. Physical Standard Test (PST)
  3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)/Review Medical Examination (RME)
  5. Document Verification (DV)

Vacancy Details

The total number of vacancies is 25487 (23467 Male, 2020 Female). The detailed breakdown by force, gender, and category is as follows:

  • Vacancies are tentative and subject to change; details are available on the SSC website (https://ssc.gov.in).
  • 10% of vacancies are earmarked for Ex-servicemen (ESM).
  • Vacancies for CAPFs and AR are State/UT-wise, while SSF vacancies are on an All-India basis.
  • Vacancies are also earmarked for Border Guarding Districts and Militancy/Naxal affected Districts.

Pay Scale

Pay Level – 3 (₹21,700/- to ₹ 69,100/-) for all the posts.

Nationality/Citizenship

Candidates must be a citizen of India. For CAPFs & AR, a domicile certificate/Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) from the domiciled State/UT is required.

Age Limit

  • Crucial date for age reckoning: 01.01.2026
  • Age: 18-23 years as on 01.01.2026. Candidates should have been born not before 02-01-2003 and not later than 01-01-2008.

  • Age concession/reservation is not admissible to sons, daughters, and dependents of Ex-Servicemen.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed the Matriculation or 10th Class Examination from a recognized Board/University as on or before 01.01.2026.
  • The result of the qualifying examination must have been declared by the Board/Institute/University by the specified date.

NCC Certificate Incentive

Bonus marks will be granted to NCC Certificate holders:

  • NCC 'C' Certificate: 5% of the maximum marks of the Examination
  • NCC 'B' Certificate: 3% of the maximum marks of the Examination
  • NCC 'A' Certificate: 2% of the maximum marks of the Examination
  • The crucial date for NCC Certificate for this purpose will be 01.01.2026. This benefit is not available for Ex-Servicemen.

How to Apply

  1. One-Time Registration (OTR): All candidates must complete OTR on the new SSC website (https://ssc.gov.in). Old OTRs are not functional.
  2. Online Application Form: Submission is online-only via https://ssc.gov.in or the 'mySSC' mobile application.
  3. Aadhaar Based Authentication: Candidates are advised to opt for this during OTR. If opted, photographs and signatures not meeting prescribed standards will not lead to rejection.
  4. Photograph: The Online Application Module captures a real-time photograph. Candidates must ensure good light, a plain background, the camera at eye level, and a full-frontal view without a cap, mask, or glasses/spectacles. Pre-existing photographs are not allowed and will lead to rejection (unless Aadhaar authenticated).
  5. Signature: Upload a scanned signature in JPEG format (10 to 20 KB), dimensions 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height). Blurred or miniature signatures will be rejected (unless Aadhaar authenticated).
  6. Candidates are advised to submit their applications well before the closing date.

Application Fee

  • Fee Payable: ₹100/-
  • Exemptions: Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) are exempted.
  • Payment Modes: BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, Master, Maestro Card, or RuPay Debit card.
  • Last Date for Online Fee Payment: 01.01.2026 (23:00 Hours).

Application Form Correction Window

  • Dates: 08.01.2026 to 10.01.2026 (23:00).
  • Correction Charges: ₹200/- for the first correction, ₹500/- for the second. Two corrections are allowed.
  • No changes will be allowed after this window expires.

Centres of Examination

Candidates must choose three examination centers in order of priority from the list provided in the notice. The Commission has introduced self-slot selection for examination city and date. A list of regional offices and their centers is provided in the original document (Annexures).

Scheme of Computer Based Examination (CBE)

  • Type: Objective Multiple-Choice Type.
  • Total Questions: 80 questions, 2 marks each (Total 160 marks).
  • Duration: 60 minutes.
  • Languages: English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu).
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Indicative Syllabus:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analytical aptitude, pattern observation, analogies, similarities, differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding.
  • General Knowledge and General Awareness: General awareness of the environment, current events, India and neighboring countries (sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research).
  • Elementary Mathematics: Number Systems, Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions, relationship between Numbers, Fundamental arithmetical operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Ratio and Time, Time and Work.
  • English/ Hindi: Basic comprehension and understanding.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates shortlisted from CBE will undergo PET/PST. Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET (race) but must appear for PST measurements.

Medical Examination (DME) / Document Verification (DV)

Candidates will be shortlisted for DME/DV based on PET/PST qualification.

Documents to be verified:

  • Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate (to prove age, name, and educational qualification)
  • Domicile Certificate/Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC)
  • Valid NCC Certificate (if applicable)
  • Certificate from serving defence personnel (as per Annexure-IV)
  • Undertaking from Ex-Servicemen candidates (as per Annexure-V)
  • Caste Certificate (as per Annexure-VI, VII, VIII)
  • Height/Chest measurement relaxation certificate (as per Annexure-IX)
  • Riot victim dependent certificate (as mentioned in Para 5.1, category 4/5/6)
  • Nativity/Identity Certificate for West Pakistani Refugee (as per Annexure-XIII)

Mode of Selection

  • Minimum qualifying marks in CBE (without NCC bonus) are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.
  • Shortlisting for PET/PST will be approximately 8 times the number of vacancies; for DME/DV, it will be approximately 2 times the number of vacancies.
  • Final selection and force allocation will be based on normalized CBE marks (including NCC bonus marks) and the preferences given by candidates in the Online Application Form.
  • Candidates must carefully exercise due diligence while giving preferences for all seven forces/organizations (BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, Assam Rifles, SSF).
  • Domicile State/District information provided in the Online Application Form is crucial for State/UT-wise and area-wise vacancies.
  • Reserved category candidates qualifying on their own merit will be adjusted against unreserved vacancies.
  • Candidates availing relaxed standards (age, height, etc.) will be counted against reserved vacancies.

Important Instructions to Candidates

  • Candidates are advised to read the Notice of Examination very carefully (English version prevails in case of dispute).
  • Only one Online Application Form is allowed per candidate.
  • Ensure name, father's name, mother's name, and date of birth match Matriculation Certificate exactly.

  • Impersonation or any form of malpractice will lead to severe debarment from Commission examinations (from 2 to 7 years).
