The West Bengal Central School Service Commission has issued a notification for the 1st State Level Selection Test (SLST), 2025, for the recruitment of Non Teaching Staff (Clerk & Group D only) in recognized Government Aided/Sponsored Schools in West Bengal. This selection process is being initiated in compliance with the Hon'ble Supreme Court's order in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024, dated April 3, 2025. The selection will be governed by The West Bengal School Service Commission Act, 1997, its amendments, the NTS Rules, 2025, and relevant State Government Guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Minimum 18 years and maximum 40 years as on January 1, 2025.
  • Upper age limit relaxations:
    • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates: 5 years
    • Other Backward Class candidates: 3 years
    • Physically Handicapped candidates: 8 years
  • Age relaxation will also be provided to candidates who benefited from age relaxation as per the Supreme Court Order dated April 3, 2025, in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024.

Educational Qualification (on or before the last date of receiving online application)

  • Clerk: Passed School Final/Madhyamik or its equivalent, or old HS in lieu of School Final/Madhyamik or its equivalent.
  • Group D: Passed class VIII from any school recognized or affiliated by a Board/Council or equivalent.

Other Eligibility Conditions

  • Only citizens of India may apply.
  • Candidates identified as "tainted candidates" by the Judgment & Order dated April 3, 2025, in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024, are not eligible to apply.
  • For SC/ST/OBC/PH/EWS category consideration, only certificates issued by competent authorities of the Government of West Bengal will be treated as valid. Candidates from other states belonging to these categories must apply as General candidates.
  • Candidates must have passed the language which is the medium of instruction in the concerned school as their first/second/third language subject at the appropriate level.

Selection Process

Selection will be based on:

  • Written examination (Question Papers in English and Bengali; syllabi to be uploaded later).
  • Evaluation of academic performance (only for Clerk).
  • Prior similar experience.
  • Interview (including typing-cum-computer proficiency test for Clerk).

Merit Lists and Panels of candidates will be prepared and published region-wise, medium-wise, gender-wise, and category-wise on the official website. There will be one correct option per question, carrying one mark, with no negative marking for wrong answers.

Panels and waiting lists will remain valid for one year from the date of first counseling, extendable by six months with State Government approval.

Important Instructions

  • All applicants must fill in all details mandatorily required in the form.
  • Submit the application form carefully; no rectification will be allowed after online submission.
  • Particulars (Name, Father's Name, Mother's Name & Date of Birth) must be entered as per the Madhyamik Certificate or equivalent.
  • Candidates can apply for only one medium of instruction and one Region for each post (Clerk and Group D).
  • Incomplete or incorrect applications are liable to be rejected.
  • In case of multiple applications for one post against multiple Candidate IDs, only the last application ID will be entertained. Similarly, for multiple applications against the same Candidate ID for one post, only the last Application ID will be entertained.
  • Qualifying the test does not guarantee appointment; final eligibility verification will be done by the recommending and appointing authorities.
  • No T.A./D.A. will be paid for appearing in the examination or interview.
  • Other relevant information (How to Apply/Pay and a short FAQ) will be notified before the commencement of the online application process.
