East Central Railway (Railway Recruitment Cell) invites online applications from interested candidates for engagement as Act Apprentices. This is for imparting training under the Apprentice Act 1961 in designated trades at various Divisions/Units within the jurisdiction of East Central Railway.

Vacancy Details
Total of 1149 slots are available across different Divisions/Units and trades. The distribution includes categories like UR, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS.
- Danapur Division: 675 slots
- Dhanbad Division: 156 slots
- Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Division: 62 slots
- Sonpur Division: 47 slots
- Samastipur Division: 42 slots
- Plant Depot/ Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya: 29 slots
- Carriage Repair Workshop/ Harnaut: 110 slots
- Mechanical Workshop/ Samastipur: 28 slots
Reservation Details
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 4% reservation (HI/VI/LD/MD). These slots are included in the total. Disability must be not less than 40%.
- Ex-servicemen: 3% reservation for Ex-servicemen, their children, and children of Armed Forces Personnel. These slots are included in the total.
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 10% reservation for candidates from their community (UR), whose family gross annual income is below Rs. 8.00 Lakh. Income includes all sources (salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc.).
- Interchangeability rules apply for SC/ST categories if sufficient candidates are not available. Unfilled OBC/EWS seats will also be filled by unreserved candidates.
Eligibility Conditions
- Age Limit: Candidates should have completed 15 years of age and not completed 24 years of age as on 25.10.2025.
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PwBD (UR-10 years, OBC-13 years, SC/ST-15 years), Ex-servicemen (total Military service + 3 years).
- Educational Qualification: Must have passed Matric/10th class examination or its equivalent (under 10+2 system) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate, from a recognized Board AND ITI in the relevant trade (National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT or Provisional Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT).
- Caste/EWS Certificates: Candidates availing reservation benefits must produce certificates in the Central Government format. OBC-NCL certificate must be issued on or after 01.04.2025.
Mode of Selection
Selection will be based on a merit list prepared for each Division/Unit. The merit list will be an average of the percentage of marks obtained in both Matriculation (minimum 50% aggregate) and ITI examination, giving equal weightage to both.
- Tie-breaking: In case of same marks, the candidate with older age shall be preferred. If dates of birth are also same, the candidate who passed the matriculation exam earlier shall be considered first.
- Candidature is subject to verification of original documents and medical fitness.
Application Fees
- Fee: Rs. 100/- (non-refundable).
- Exemption: No fee for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates.
- Payment Mode: Online through the payment gateway integrated with the online application.
How to Apply
Candidates are required to apply ONLINE by visiting the official website of Railway Recruitment Cell/East Central Railway: www.ecr.indianrailways.gov.in -> Hajipur H.Q. -> RRC/Patna.
- A Registration number will be issued upon submission; candidates are advised to preserve it.
- Candidates must have an Aadhar Card or Aadhar Enrolment ID. Residents of Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, and Assam can use Voter ID, Passport, Driving License, or other valid government identity cards.
- Ensure name, father's name, date of birth, and marks match exactly with certificates. Multiple applications or applications with discrepancies will be rejected.
Documents to be Uploaded
Legible scanned copies of the following:
- SSC (Standard 10th) or equivalent Marks Sheet.
- Certificate for proof of Date of Birth.
- Consolidated Marks Sheet of ITI for all semesters.
- National Trade Certificate (NTC) issued by NCVT or Provisional NTC issued by NCVT/SCVT.
- Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC (as per Annexure-I & II).
- EWS certificate (as per Annexure-III).
- Disability certificate (in case of PwBD, as per Annexure-IV).
- Discharge certificate/Serving certificate (in case of Ex-servicemen quota).
Scanned Photograph and Signature
- Photograph: Colour, 3.5 cm X 3.5 cm, JPG/JPEG format, 100 DPI, file size 20-70 kb, taken within three months, clear front view without cap and sunglasses.
- Signature: JPG/JPEG format, 100 DPI, file size 10-30 kb, 3.5 cm X 1.5 cm, in running handwriting (not block/capital).
Training Period & Stipend
- Training will be arranged as per Central Apprenticeship Council standards.
- Stipend will be paid as per extant instructions.
- No hostel accommodation will be provided.
- Completion of training does not obligate the employer to offer employment, nor the apprentice to accept it.
Medical Fitness
Candidates must satisfy the minimum physical fitness standards prescribed in the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. A medical certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-V), signed by a Government authorized doctor (not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of Central/State Hospital), must be presented at the time of document verification.
Important Instructions
- The decision of the Railway administration in all matters regarding eligibility and selection shall be final.
- Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
- Candidates need not send any application printouts or certificates by post.
- No request for changing division/unit will be entertained after selection.
- In case of any dispute, the English version of the Notification will be treated as valid.
- For legal matters, the jurisdiction will be Hon'ble Central Administrative Tribunal, Patna.
