The Government of India, Ministry of Railways, through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), has released the Detailed Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 09/2025 for the recruitment of various posts in Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on 01.01.2026)

The age limit is 18 to 33 years. The date of birth of candidates should be between the dates given below (both dates inclusive):

Age Relaxation

Upper age limit relaxations are applicable for various categories as per government norms, including but not limited to:

  • OBC-NCL: 3 Years
  • SC/ST: 5 Years
  • Ex-Servicemen: Up to the extent of service rendered plus 3/6/8 years for UR/OBC/SC/ST respectively.
  • PwBD: 10 years (UR), 13 years (OBC-NCL), 15 years (SC/ST).
  • Widows, divorced women: Up to 35 years (UR), 38 years (OBC-NCL), 40 years (SC/ST).

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must possess the prescribed educational/technical qualifications from a recognized Board/Institute/University as on the closing date of application (02.03.2026). The specific qualifications for each post are detailed in Annexure-A of the notification. Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible to apply.

Application Fee

  • Note: The fee must be paid online through internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI. The refund will be processed only for candidates who appear for the Computer Based Test (CBT).

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process will consist of the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  3. Document Verification (DV)
  4. Medical Examination (ME)

Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates using a scribe).
  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS - 40%, OBC(NCL) - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 30%.
  • Syllabus:
    • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, etc.
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Series, Coding-Decoding, Syllogism, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation, etc.
    • General Science: Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences of the 10th standard level (CBSE).
    • General Awareness on Current Affairs: Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

PET is mandatory and qualifying in nature.

Male Lift and carry 35 Kg for 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance. Run for 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance.
Female/Transgender Lift and carry 20 Kg for 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance. Run for 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.
  • Exemption: PwBD, Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA), and Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET.

How to Apply

  1. Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the links provided on the official websites of the RRBs.
  2. Candidates must first 'Create an Account'. A valid mobile number and email ID are mandatory.
  3. During the application, a live photograph of the candidate will be captured via webcam or front camera of a mobile phone.
  4. A scanned copy of the candidate's signature in JPG/JPEG format must be uploaded.
  5. Candidates can modify their application (except details in 'Create an Account' form and chosen RRB) within the modification window by paying a fee of ₹250 for each occasion.
