Introduction

Government of India, Ministry of Railways, through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), invites ONLINE applications from eligible Indian Nationals for recruitment to various posts in Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. This detailed centralized employment notification, CEN No. 09/2025, outlines the process for filling a total of 22,195 vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must possess the prescribed educational/technical qualifications from a recognized Board/Institute/University as on the closing date of application (02.03.2026). The specific qualification for each post is detailed in Annexure-A. Candidates awaiting final results of the prescribed qualifications are NOT eligible to apply. As per Annexure-A, the required qualification is 10th pass or ITI or equivalent or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 33 years as on 01.01.2026. Relaxations in the upper age limit are applicable for various categories as per government norms:

  • OBC-NCL: 3 Years
  • SC/ST: 5 Years
  • PwBD (UR): 10 Years
  • PwBD (OBC-NCL): 13 Years
  • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 Years
  • Other relaxations are applicable for Ex-servicemen, widowed/divorced women, and other specified categories as detailed in the notification.

Application Fee

Category Fee Refund Details
All Candidates (except those mentioned below) Rs. 500/- Rs. 400/- will be refunded after appearing in the CBT.
SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities, EBC Rs. 250/- The full amount of Rs. 250/- will be refunded after appearing in the CBT.

Note: Fee payment must be made online via internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI. The refund will be credited to the bank account seeded with the candidate's Aadhaar number.

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process will consist of the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  3. Document Verification (DV)
  4. Medical Examination

Computer Based Test (CBT)

The CBT will be a single-stage examination with objective-type multiple-choice questions. There will be negative marking of 1/3rd of the marks for each wrong answer.

*120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates using a Scribe.

Minimum qualifying percentage: UR & EWS: 40%, OBC(NCL), SC, ST: 30%. These may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates shortlisted based on CBT merit will be called for PET, which is mandatory and qualifying in nature.

Exemptions: PwBD, Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA), and Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET.

How to Apply

  1. Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the official websites of the RRBs.
  2. Candidates must first create an account on the RRB portal. A valid mobile number and email ID are mandatory.
  3. During the application, candidates will need to capture a live photograph using a webcam or mobile front camera.
  4. A scanned copy of the candidate's signature in JPG/JPEG format (30 KB to 49 KB) is required.
  5. SC/ST candidates who wish to avail of the free travel pass must upload a scanned copy of their caste certificate in PDF format (less than 400 KB).
  6. A modification fee of Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) is applicable for making corrections to the application form during the specified window.
