The Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (IGMC&RI), Puducherry, reserves the right to enhance or reduce the number of vacancies notified or cancel the recruitment process on administrative grounds.

Educational and Other Qualifications

  • Essential:
    1. Degree in Nursing / Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery or equivalent.
    2. Registered with any State Nursing Council.
  • Note:
    • Qualification obtained after 2025-11-06 will not be considered.
    • Candidates with equivalent degrees must produce an Equivalency Certificate from the concerned University during Certificate Verification.
    • The prescribed educational and technical qualifications must have been acquired through a regular course prior to the last date of application.
    • Applicants with Diploma/Degree under the Open University Stream are not eligible for Direct Recruitment.
    • The Diploma/Degree Course must follow a 10+2+3/4 pattern on a regular stream.

Age Limit

Candidates must be between 18 and 35 years of age as on 2025-11-06. Age relaxation is applicable for various categories as detailed below:

Nativity / Residence Certificate

Only natives or residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry for the last 5 years immediately preceding the closing date are eligible. Upon selection, a fresh Nativity/Residence Certificate issued by an Officer of the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Puducherry (not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar) is required.

Community Certificate

Selected applicants from MBC/OBC/EBC/BCM/BT/SC and ST categories must produce a fresh Community Certificate issued by an Officer of the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Puducherry (not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar). Specific orders apply for SC and ST certificates.

EWS Certificate

Candidates selected under the EWS category must submit an Income & Asset Certificate issued by an Officer of the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management (not below Deputy Tahsildar) at the time of certificate verification. The crucial date for this certificate is 2025-11-06, and it must be issued for the financial year 2024-25, valid for 2025-26.

Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD)

Applicants applying under PwBD horizontal reservation must submit a fresh Medical Certificate issued by the District Medical Board, Government of Puducherry, at the time of certificate verification. The functional requirements and suitable categories of disability are detailed in Part-II of the notification.

Method of Selection

Selection will be based on a maximum of 120 marks, calculated as follows:

  • 50% of marks obtained in Higher Secondary Examination or equivalent.
  • 50% of marks obtained in Degree in Nursing / Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery or equivalent.
  • A deduction of 5% will be made for every additional attempt to pass or improve results.
  • 1.5 marks will be awarded for every completed year of Nursing Degree/Diploma registration in the Employment Exchange, Puducherry, up to a maximum of 15 marks.
  • Incentive Marks for COVID-19 Duty:
    • Candidates who worked as Nursing Officer/Staff Nurse and performed COVID duty in Government Institutions of UT of Puducherry are eligible for incentive marks:
      • 100 days to 1 year: 2 Marks

      • 1 year to 1.5 years: 3 Marks

      • 1.5 years to 2 years: 4 Marks

      • 2 years: 5 Marks

    • A COVID Duty Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-II) from specified authorities is required.

The total qualifying marks are [50 (H.Sc.) + 50 (Degree/Diploma) + 15 (Employment Exchange Seniority) + 5 (COVID duty)] = 120 marks.

Selection Procedure

A provisional select list and a wait list (valid for two years from result declaration) will be published on the official website: https://igmcri.edu.in. No individual communication will be sent to non-selected candidates. The wait list will be operated in case of vacancies arising from various reasons (e.g., rejection, non-appearance, resignation).

Resolution of Tie Cases

In case of a tie in scores, merit will be decided by:

  1. Date of birth (older candidate placed higher).
  2. Alphabetical order of names.

Probation

Selected candidates for the Post of Nursing Officer will be placed under probation for a period of two years as per Recruitment Rules.

Application Fee

Application fees are payable via Demand Draft (DD) from any Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of "The Director, Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Puducherry" payable at Puducherry. The DD must be issued on or after 2025-10-07.

How to Apply

  1. Mode: Offline (Hard copy) only.
  2. Application Period: From 2025-10-07 (10:00 AM) to 2025-11-06 (05:00 PM).
  3. Address: The Director, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Vazhudavur Road, Kathirkamam, Puducherry – 605009.
  4. Submission: Submit the duly filled-in application form (annexed to this notification) along with the Checklist (Annexure-III), Original Demand Draft, and self-attested Photostat copies of the required testimonials.
  5. Method: In person or by "Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due".
  6. Envelope Superscription: "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF NURSING OFFICER, IGMCRI - 2025".
  7. Deadline: Applications must reach the institute on or before 2025-11-06 by 05:00 PM. Applications received after the deadline will be rejected.

Documents to be Enclosed (Self-Attested Copies)

  • Applicable Application fee in the form of Demand Draft (DD).
  • Birth Certificate / S.S.L.C / Matriculation or equivalent certificate / Transfer Certificate or Board / University Certificate indicating Date of Birth.
  • Higher Secondary or its equivalent Mark Sheets.
  • Degree/Diploma Certificate with all Mark Sheets (Year-wise / Semester-wise) including attempts made, if any.
  • Valid Permanent Registration Certificate for Nurse and Midwifery issued by any State Nursing & Midwifery Council in India.
  • Community Certificate (OBC/MBC/EBC/BCM/SC/ST/BT).
  • Nationality & Nativity/Residence Certificate.
  • EWS Certificate (Income and Asset Certificate) for the year 2024-25.
  • Disability Certificate (for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) issued by the Medical Board, Puducherry.
  • Employment Exchange Card duly registered and renewed as on date bearing NCO code nos. for each qualification acquired by the candidate.
  • COVID Duty Certificate (if applicable), obtained from the authority mentioned in the notification.

General Instructions

  • Applicants should keep a copy of their submitted application for future reference.
  • Original certificates should not be sent with the application; they will be required at the time of certificate verification after the result notification.
  • Incomplete applications, or applications without the applicant's signature or requisite attested certificates/mark sheets, will be summarily rejected.
  • Candidates seeking reservation benefits must ensure they are entitled and possess certificates in the prescribed format.
  • Candidates working in State/Central Government/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Undertakings must apply through the proper channel on or before 2025-11-06.
  • Changes in address or mobile number must be intimated to the Institute by Registered Post.
