The Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) invites online applications from eligible Indian citizens for regular appointment to the vacant posts of Pump Operator under the Public Health Engineering Department, Bihar, Patna. Eligibility Criteria

Essential Educational Qualification

1. Must have passed Matriculation (10th) from a recognized Board/equivalent institution.
2. Must have passed the examination in Machinist or Fitter trade from a recognized Industrial Training Institute (ITI).

Note: Qualification obtained through distance education in Machinist or Fitter trades will not be considered valid. Only qualifications from a regular course will be given preference.

Age Limit (as on 01-08-2025)

• Minimum Age: 18 years

Age Relaxation:

• A relaxation of 10 years in the maximum age limit is admissible for persons with disabilities.
• A relaxation of 5 years is admissible for regular government employees of the Bihar government who have completed three years of continuous service.

Application Fee

• An examination fee of ₹100/- (One Hundred Rupees) is to be paid by each applicant.
• Payment must be made online via Debit Card/Credit Card/Internet Banking/UPI.

Selection Process

The selection for the post of Pump Operator will be based on a written competitive examination.

• Examination Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT)
• Total Marks: 100

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

1. The question paper will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions.
2. The duration of the exam will be 2 hours.
3. Syllabus Distribution:
   • Machinist Trade (ITI Level): 30 questions
   • Fitter Trade (ITI Level): 30 questions
   • Mathematics (Matriculation - BSEB Level): 20 questions
   • General Knowledge: 20 questions
4. The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi and English).
5. Negative Marking: For every correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded, and for every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
6. Normalization will be applied as the exam may be conducted in multiple shifts.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

• General: 40%
• Backward Class: 36.5%
• Extremely Backward Class: 34%
• SC/ST/Women/PwD: 32%

Important Instructions

• Reservation benefits are only applicable to permanent residents of Bihar.
• Candidates must upload all necessary documents (Matriculation certificate, ITI certificate, caste certificate, domicile certificate, etc.) in the online application. All documents must be issued on or before the last date of application, i.e., 12.01.2026.
