11.7 Scribe Facility Details

  • 11.7.10 Use of Scribe Services: Candidates eligible to use scribe services, if desired, can avail the facility of a scribe and/or compensatory time.
    • Compensatory Time: Candidates permitted to use a scribe will be granted 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of examination.
    • Forgoing Scribe Facility: Candidates eligible for scribe services but opting not to use them may still be granted 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour, if they so desire.
  • 11.7.11 Conditions for Scribe Appointment: Terms and conditions for scribe appointment will be subject to various provisions/orders issued by the competent authority from time to time.

12.0 No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Current Employer

  • Candidates currently serving in any department of Central/State Government, including Railways or Public Sector Undertakings (including those undergoing induction training/probation period), must inform their employer and apply directly to the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB).
  • Mandatory Submission: Selected candidates must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of document verification (DV), failing which their candidature will be cancelled.
  • It is solely the candidate's responsibility to obtain and present the NOC from their current employer during DV/empanelment/appointment or within the stipulated time. Failure to do so will result in the rejection/cancellation of their candidature/empanelment/appointment.
  • Important Note: Candidates should note that if their employer sends a communication to the concerned RRB stating that the candidates are not permitted to apply for or appear in the examination, their application/candidature will be rejected/cancelled.

13.0 Recruitment Process

  • (a) Online Application: Candidates must submit only one online application through any official website of the RRB.

  • (b) Stages of Recruitment: The recruitment process will involve: First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTSAT) (where applicable), and Document Verification/Medical Examination. Selection will be made based on merit according to these stages.

  • (c) Schedule of Activities: The date, time, and venue for all activities such as CBT, CBTSAT, Document Verification, Medical Examination, or any other additional activity, will be determined by the Railway Recruitment Board and informed to eligible candidates in due course. Requests for postponement or change in venue, date, and shift for any of the above activities will not be entertained under any circumstances.

  • Note: Candidates are not permitted to use calculators or any other electronic gadgets. Bringing mobile phones, Bluetooth, or any other wireless communication device (whether switched on or off) into the examination premises will lead to immediate cancellation of candidature and may result in legal action and debarment from RRB examinations.

General Instructions for Candidates

  • Candidates must download city and date intimations, e-call letters, and travel authority (where applicable) from the links provided on the official RRB websites.
  • Instructions on the e-call letter must be read carefully and followed diligently. Non-compliance may lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Mock/practice tests will be made available on the official RRB websites to familiarize candidates with the online examination process.

13.1 First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) – Common for all Notified Posts of CEN 07/2025

  • Exam Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible to use a scribe).
  • Number of Questions (1 mark each):
    • General Awareness: 40 questions
    • Mathematics: 30 questions
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 questions
    • Total: 100 questions
  • Marking Scheme: The section-wise distribution shown in the table is indicative, and there might be some changes in the actual question paper. There will be negative marking, with 1/3rd mark deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • Nature of Exam: The First Stage CBT will be of a screening nature. Normalized marks from this CBT will be used for shortlisting candidates for the Second Stage CBT based on their merit.
  • Reservation Benefits: Candidates selected for the Second Stage CBT availing reservation benefits for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/EWS, PwBD, and Ex-servicemen will be considered eligible only for these categories in all subsequent stages of the recruitment process.
  • Question Type: Questions will be of objective type with multiple-choice answers, covering the following subjects:
    • a. Mathematics: Number Systems, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Elementary Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, etc.
    • b. General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Puzzle, Data Sufficiency, Statement-Conclusion, Statement-Courses of Action, Decision Making, Maps, Interpretation of Graphs, etc.
    • c. General Awareness: Current Affairs of National and International importance, Games and Sports, Art and Culture of India, Indian Literature, Monuments and Places of India, General Science and Life Science (up to 10th CBSE), History of India and Freedom Struggle, Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India and World, Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution and Political System, General Scientific and Technological Developments including Space and Nuclear Programme of India, United Nations and Other Important World Organizations, Environmental Issues, Computer and Computer Applications, Common Abbreviations, Indian Transport System, Indian Economy, Famous Personalities of India and World, Flagship Government Programmes, Flora and Fauna of India, Important Government and Public Sector Organizations of India, etc.

Minimum Qualifying Percentage of Marks for Eligibility in Different Communities

  • Unreserved (UR): 40%
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 40%
  • Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) (OBC-NCL): 30%
  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 30%
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 25%
  • PwBD Relaxation: In case of non-availability of PwBD candidates for reserved vacancies, PwBD candidates will be granted a relaxation of 2 marks in the minimum eligibility marks.

13.2 Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • Shortlisting: Candidates for the Second Stage CBT will be shortlisted based on their normalized marks obtained in the First Stage CBT.
  • Number of Candidates: The total number of candidates shortlisted will be 15 times the community-wise vacancies notified by the RRB, according to their merit. However, the Railway reserves the right to increase/decrease this limit as necessary to ensure the availability of sufficient candidates for all notified posts or for any specific category.

13.2.1 Second Stage CBT Exam Duration and Number of Questions

  • Exam Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible to use a scribe).
  • Number of Questions (1 mark each):
    • General Awareness: 50 questions
    • Mathematics: 35 questions
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 35 questions
    • Total: 120 questions
  • Marking Scheme: The section-wise distribution shown in the table is indicative, and there might be some changes in the actual question paper. There will be negative marking, with 1/3rd mark deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • Question Type: Questions will be of objective type with multiple-choice answers, covering the following subjects:

13.2.2 Minimum Qualifying Percentage of Marks for Eligibility in Different Communities

  • Unreserved (UR): 40%

13.2.3 Selection for Document Verification

  • For posts where Typing Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test is not prescribed, candidates will be selected for document verification based on their normalized marks obtained in the Second Stage CBT.
  • For posts where Typing Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test is prescribed, candidates will be selected based on their normalized marks obtained in the Second Stage CBT AND Computer Based Aptitude Test.

13.2.4 Normalization of Marks

  • When CBTs are conducted in multiple sessions for similar syllabi, shortlisting of candidates for various stages will be based on their normalized marks.

13.3 Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTSAT)

  • Qualifying Nature: A qualifying Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTSAT) will be conducted for posts like Senior Clerk Cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist. Marks obtained in the CBTSAT will NOT be added for merit ranking.
  • Candidates Called: Candidates equal to eight (8) times the number of community-wise vacancies will be called for the CBTSAT.
  • Typing Speed: Candidates must be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English OR 25 WPM in Hindi on a Personal Computer, without the use of editing tools and spell check facility.
  • Hindi Typing: For Hindi typing, Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts will be provided on the Personal Computer.
  • Exemptions: Exemption from the Typing Skill Test may be granted to visually impaired/low vision, Cerebral Palsy, and Loco-motor Disabled candidates who are permanently disabled and have less than 40% permanent disability.
  • PwBD Exemption Certificate: Such eligible PwBD candidates must upload a scanned copy of their Typing Skill Test exemption certificate issued by the competent Medical Board in Annexure V(H) on the website of the concerned Railway Recruitment Board before the conduct of the Typing Skill Test.
  • Merit for Exempted PwBD: The merit for exempted PwBD candidates and qualified CBTSAT candidates will be based on their performance in the Second Stage CBT.

13.4 Summary of Various Stages of Recruitment for Notified Posts

13.5 Document Verification and Panelization

  • (a) Shortlisting for DV and Panelization: Candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification and Panelization based on their performance in CBT/CBTSAT (as applicable), subject to achieving the prescribed minimum qualifying marks for their communities (UR/EWS: 40%, OBC: 30%, SC: 30%, ST: 25%). This also applies to Ex-servicemen. If sufficient PwBD candidates are not available, a relaxation of 2 marks in minimum qualifying marks will be given to PwBD candidates.
  • (b) Call for DV: Candidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1 ratio) will be called for Document Verification based on their performance in CBT/CBTSAT (as applicable).
  • (c) Tie-Breaking: If two or more candidates secure the same marks, their merit position will be determined by age criteria (i.e., the older candidate will be given higher merit). If age is also the same, the tie will be broken by the alphabetical order of names (A to Z).
  • (d) Original Documents: During Document Verification, candidates must present their original certificates. No additional time will be provided, and candidates failing to present their original certificates on the date of verification will have their candidature forfeited.
  • (e) Final Panel: The panel of candidates will be based on merit and subject to successful completion of Document Verification and passing the prescribed Medical Examination.
  • (f) Appointment Conditions: The appointment of selected candidates is subject to passing the requisite medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration/RRB, final verification of educational and community certificates, and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates.
  • (g) Allocation of Zone/Unit: Upon completion of all stages of the recruitment process, the RRB will allocate Railway Zones/Production Units to eligible candidates based on their preference, merit, medical standards, and vacancy status. Once candidates are empanelled according to their merit and preference, they will forfeit the right to be considered for their next preferred zone/unit. However, the RRB reserves the right to allocate chosen/un-chosen Railway Zones/Units in administrative interest, subject to candidates fulfilling eligibility requirements.
  • (h) RRB Recommendation: Candidates should note that the Railway Recruitment Board only recommends the names of empanelled candidates to the concerned Railway Administration.
  • (i) Use of Lower-Ranked Candidates: In case of any deficiency or other exigencies in the panel, the RRB reserves the right to use lower-ranked candidates from the merit list as per their eligibility and options. However, such candidates...
