Introduction

Online applications are invited from Indian nationals for Direct Recruitment to the post of Multi-Tasking Staff (General) {MTS(G)} in the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaux under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Interested candidates are advised to go through all parameters mentioned in the notification and satisfy themselves about their suitability before applying.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted ONLY ONLINE through the MHA's website (www.mha.gov.in) or NCS portal (www.ncs.gov.in). Applications will not be accepted through any other mode.

Vacancies

A total of 362 vacancies are available for the post of Multi-Tasking Staff (General) across various Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaux. The detailed breakdown of vacancies with reservation break-up (UR, OBC (NCL), SC, ST, EWS) for each SIB is provided in the official notification. Vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) will be allocated on a centralized basis.

Description of the Post

  • Name: MTS (G)
  • Classification: General Central Service, (Group 'C') Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial
  • Pay Scale: Level-1 (Rs. 18,000-56,900) in the pay matrix plus admissible Central Government allowances.
    • Note: Special Security Allowance @ 20% of basic pay is provided in addition to other Government allowances. Cash compensation in lieu of duty performed on holidays (up to 30 days) is also admissible.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following qualifications as of the closing date of application (14.12.2025):

  • (i) Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board.
  • (ii) Possession of a domicile certificate of the State against which the candidate has applied.

Age Limit

Candidates must be between 18-25 years as on the closing date of application (14.12.2025).

Age Relaxations

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • Departmental Candidates: Up to 40 years of age for those who have rendered 3 years of regular and continuous service.
  • Widows, Divorced Women, Women Judicially Separated: Up to 35 years for UR, 38 for OBC, and 40 years for SC/ST, provided they have not remarried.
  • Ex-servicemen: As per Government instructions.
  • Meritorious Sportspersons: Up to 5 years (as per specified O.M. references).
  • PwBD: 10 years for UR-PwBD, 13 years for OBC-PwBD, and 15 years for SC/ST-PwBD.

Permissible Disabilities for PwBD Candidates

Functional Requirements for Multi-Tasking Staff (General) include S (Sitting), ST (Standing), W (Walking), BN (Bending), RW (Reading and Writing), SE (Seeing), H (Hearing), C (Communication).

  • (a) B (Blind), LV (Low Vision)
  • (b) D (Deaf), HH (Hard of Hearing)
  • (c) OA (One Arm), BA (Both Arms), OL (One Leg), BL (Both Legs), OAL (One Arm and One Leg), CP (Cerebral Palsy), LC (Leprosy Cured), Dw (Dwarfism), AAV (Acid Attack Victims), MDy (Muscular Dystrophy), SD/SI without neurological/limb dysfunction (Spinal Deformity/Spinal Injury)
  • (d) ASD(M) (Autism Spectrum Disorder (Mild)), SLD (Specific Learning Disability), MI (Mental Illness)
  • (e) MD (Multiple Disabilities) involving categories (a) to (d).

Service Liability

The post involves All India Transfer liability. Candidates willing to serve anywhere in India should only apply.

Scheme of Examination

Tier-I (Online Exam)

  • Type: Objective Type MCQs
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Sections:
    • General Awareness: 40 questions, 40 marks
    • Quantitative Aptitude: 20 questions, 20 marks
    • Numerical/Analytical/Logical ability and Reasoning: 20 questions, 20 marks
    • English Language: 20 questions, 20 marks
  • Negative Marking: ¼ mark for each wrong answer.

Tier-II (Descriptive Test)

  • Content: English Language and Comprehension (Basics of English Language, its vocabulary, correct grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc., to test comprehension and paragraph writing in 150 words)
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Total Marks: 50
  • Qualifying Nature: Minimum qualifying marks - 20

Examination Centres

Candidates must indicate five options/choices as exam centres for the online/Tier-I Exam from a comprehensive list provided in the official advertisement (refer to Para 4 of the advertisement).

Selection Process

  • Candidates must score minimum cut-off marks in Tier-I. Cut-off marks for Tier-I (out of 100) are:
    • UR: 30
    • OBC: 28
    • SC/ST: 25
    • EWS: 30 (All Ex-servicemen and PwBD will be treated in their own category viz., UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS).
  • Qualified candidates will be shortlisted for Tier-II @ 10 times the number of vacancies.
  • The Tier-II exam is qualifying in nature, with 20 out of 50 as qualifying marks.
  • A final merit list will be prepared based on performance in Tier-I, provided the candidate has qualified in Tier-II.
  • Final selection is subject to successful completion of Character and Antecedent verification, followed by a medical examination. Appointment will initially be temporary.

Resolution of Tie Cases

In case of a tie in Tier-I scores, the following criteria will be applied, in order:

  • (i) Date of birth (older candidates placed higher).
  • (ii) Alphabetical order of names (starting with the first name).

Compensatory Time and Assistance of Scribe

  • Own Scribe: Admissible for persons with benchmark disabilities in the category of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected-BA) and cerebral palsy, at their own cost, if opted by the candidate.
  • For other PwBD categories, own scribe is admissible upon production of a certificate stating physical limitation to write.
  • PwD candidates with less than 40% disability and difficulty in writing may also avail scribe facility.
  • The scribe's qualification should not exceed the minimum qualification required for the examination (Matriculation).
  • Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination will be provided to eligible persons.

Examination Fee

  • Recruitment Processing Charges: ₹ 550/-
  • Examination Fee: ₹ 100/-
  • Total for Male candidates of UR, EWS, and OBC categories: ₹ 650/-

Fee Exemptions

  • All SC/ST candidates, female candidates, PwBD, and eligible Ex-Servicemen are exempted from the Examination Fee (₹ 100/-) but must pay the Recruitment Processing Charges (₹ 550/-).
  • Ex-servicemen who have already secured employment in the civil side under Central Government (Group 'C' posts on regular basis after availing reservation benefits) are required to pay both the Examination Fee (₹ 100/-) and Recruitment Processing Charges (₹ 550/-).
  • Banking charges, if applicable, will be borne by the candidate.

Mode of Payment

Payment can be made online via SBI EPAY LITE through Debit Cards (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/Maestro), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, UPI, or offline through an SBI challan.

General Instructions

  • The crucial date for determining age limit, educational qualifications, certificates/testimonials, etc., shall be the closing date for receipt of applications (14.12.2025).
  • Candidates must ensure that they are eligible for the post as per age, educational qualification, and category. Furnishing incorrect information or fake documents will lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Caste certificates (OBC, SC, ST, EWS) must be in the Central Government format as prescribed in the respective Appendices of the advertisement. OBC candidates must ensure they do not belong to the creamy layer.
  • Candidates already in Government service or working with PSUs/Autonomous Bodies should inform their Employer or obtain necessary permission before applying. No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required at the time of Interview.
  • Mobile phones and other electronic gadgets are banned at examination centres.
  • Candidates are cautioned against unscrupulous elements inviting applications or making fake promises of assistance in the exam. IB does not share any input regarding question papers.
  • Candidates must refrain from disclosing any updates regarding their progression to next stages of recruitment or final selection on social media platforms.

Appendices

The advertisement includes various appendices for certificate formats (e.g., OBC Certificate, EWS Certificate, various Sports Certificates, Certificate for serving Defence Personnel, Undertaking for Ex-servicemen, Certificates for Physical Limitation for Examinee to Write, and Letter of Undertaking for Using own Scribe).
