Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess all prescribed educational qualifications by the last date of online application submission (2025-11-27). Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible. The issue date of provisional/regular certificates should not be after the last application date.
  • Age Limit: Minimum and maximum age limits are calculated as on 2026-01-01.
    • General/EWS: 18-30 years (born between 2008-01-01 and 1996-01-02, inclusive).
    • OBC-NCL: 18-33 years (born between 2008-01-01 and 1993-01-02, inclusive).
    • SC/ST: 18-35 years (born between 2008-01-01 and 1991-01-02, inclusive).
    • Age relaxation is also provided for Ex-servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), serving Railway employees, and widows/divorced women as per rules. Refer to Para 5.2 for detailed age relaxation.
  • Nationality: A citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962, or a person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Eligibility certificate from the Government of India may be required.
  • Medical Fitness: Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standards for the chosen post as per the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM). LASIK surgery generally disqualifies for A-3 medical standard posts, but may be considered for B-2 and C-2 standards under specific conditions. Medical appeal option is available.

  • Fee must be paid online via Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.
  • No refund for incomplete or rejected applications.
  • Economically Backward Class (EBC) candidates must possess a valid EBC certificate or BPL card for fee concession. EBC is distinct from EWS/OBC and provides only fee concession, not reservation in jobs.

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process involves the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT) - Stage 1:
    • Nature: Screening.
    • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible scribes).
    • Sections: General Awareness (40 marks), Mathematics (30 marks), General Intelligence & Reasoning (30 marks). Total 100 marks.
    • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark for each wrong answer.
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks: Unreserved/EWS - 40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 25%. PwBD candidates will receive a 2% relaxation in minimum marks for reserved vacancies.
  2. Computer Based Test (CBT) - Stage 2:
    • Nature: Merit-based selection.
    • Shortlisting: Candidates 15 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted based on normalized marks from CBT-1.
    • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible scribes).
    • Sections: General Awareness (50 marks), Mathematics (35 marks), General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 marks). Total 120 marks.
    • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark for each wrong answer.
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks: Unreserved/EWS - 40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 25%. PwBD candidates will receive a 2% relaxation in minimum marks for reserved vacancies.
    • Selection for posts without typing/aptitude test is based on normalized CBT-2 marks. For posts with typing/aptitude test, selection is based on normalized CBT-2 marks and qualifying CBTST.
  3. Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST):
    • Applicability: For Accounts Clerk Cum Typist and Junior Clerk Cum Typist posts.
    • Nature: Qualifying. Marks obtained in CBTST will not be added to the merit list.
    • Shortlisting: Candidates 8 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted.
    • Requirement: Typing speed of 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a personal computer without editing/spell check. Hindi typing will be supported by Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts.
    • Exemption: Certain PwBD categories (visually impaired, locomotor disability, cerebral palsy) may be exempt if certified by a medical board.
  4. Document Verification (DV): Candidates will be shortlisted in a 1:1 ratio based on their performance in CBT/CBTST. Original documents, along with two sets of self-attested photocopies, must be presented.
  5. Medical Examination (ME): Final selection is subject to passing the prescribed medical fitness tests.

How to Apply

  • Applications must be submitted online only through the official websites of the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). A list of RRB websites is available in Para 16.0 of the full notification.
  • Create an Account: New users must first create an account on rrbapply.gov.in. Existing users from previous CENs can use their existing login credentials. Mobile number and email ID in the account cannot be changed after creation. DigiLocker/Aadhaar verification is recommended during account creation.
  • Live Photo Capture: Instead of uploading a photo, candidates must capture a live photograph using a webcam or front camera during the application process. Ensure a clear, centered photo with good contrast (dark colored clothes recommended) and no glasses. Photos from unofficial sources or printed/digital photos will not be accepted.
  • Upload Scanned Documents:
    • Signature: JPG/JPEG format, 30-49 KB, 140x60 pixels, 100 DPI resolution, in black ink on white paper, plain handwriting (not in block letters).
    • SC/ST Certificate (for free travel pass request): PDF format, up to 400 KB, clear and legible.
  • Modification of Application: Corrections to application details (excluding mobile number, email ID, and chosen RRB) can be made during the modification window (2025-11-30 to 2025-12-09) by paying a non-refundable fee of INR 250 per modification.
  • No Multiple Applications: Submitting more than one application to any RRB or across different RRBs will lead to rejection and debarment from future exams.

Reservation Details

  • Vertical Reservation: For Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) (OBC-NCL) as per existing rules.
  • OBC-NCL Certificate: Must be in the prescribed format (Annexure-II) and issued on or after 2025-04-01 but not after the last application date. A self-declaration (Annexure-IIA) is also required.
  • Horizontal Reservation: For Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). ESM can apply for unreserved vacancies. Unfilled PwBD vacancies may be filled by other PwBD categories or regular candidates based on merit.
  • EWS Reservation: For candidates not covered under SC/ST/OBC-NCL whose family gross annual income is below INR 8 lakhs. Family assets criteria also apply. Income and Asset Certificate in prescribed format (Annexure-III) issued by a competent authority for the financial year 2024-25 is required by the last application date.

Scribe Assistance

  • Scribe facility and compensatory time (20 minutes per hour) are available for eligible PwBD candidates (visually impaired, locomotor disability with both arms affected, cerebral palsy, and others with writing difficulties certified by a CMO).
  • Candidates must select the scribe option in the online application.
  • Scribes must be registered on rrbapply.gov.in and meet specific eligibility criteria (e.g., educational qualification lower than the candidate, not a candidate for the same CEN). Scribe details must be submitted during the modification window.

Important Notes

  • Candidates currently employed in government/PSUs must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of Document Verification.
  • Candidates should regularly check the official RRB websites for all updates regarding examination dates, e-call letters, and results. A list of RRB websites is provided in Para 16.0 of the full notification.
  • Negative marking of 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question will be applicable in both CBT stages.
  • The use of calculators and other electronic gadgets is strictly prohibited in the examination.
  • Any attempt to use unfair means or providing false information will lead to disqualification and legal action. Candidates are warned against touts and fraudsters. The RRB does not appoint any agents or coaching centers.
