CEN No. 06/2025: Non-Technical Popular Categories (Graduate) Recruitment Notice

Candidates are strictly prohibited from bringing calculators or other electronic gadgets into the examination premises. Possession of any wireless communication device, whether in use or switched off, will lead to immediate cancellation of candidature and debarment from RRB examinations, alongside legal action.

Candidates must download city and date intimations, e-call letters, and travel authority (if applicable) from the official RRB websites. Instructions on the e-Call Letter must be followed diligently, as non-compliance may result in cancellation of candidature. Mock/practice tests will be available on RRB websites to familiarize candidates with the online examination process.

1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) - Common for all notified posts of this CEN 06/2025

  • Exam Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
  • No. of Questions (each of 1 mark):
    • General Awareness: 40 questions
    • Mathematics: 30 questions
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 questions
    • Total: 100 questions
  • The section-wise distribution is indicative and may vary. Negative marking applies, with 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • The 1st Stage CBT is a screening test. The standard of questions will align with the educational standards prescribed for the posts. Normalized scores from the 1st Stage CBT will be used for shortlisting candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT based on merit. Candidates shortlisted with reservation benefits (OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/EWS, PwBD, ExSM) will continue to be considered under their respective categories in subsequent recruitment stages.
  • Questions will be objective type with multiple choices.

Syllabus for 1st Stage CBT:

a. Mathematics: Number System, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportions, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Elementary Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics etc. b. General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Completion of Number and Alphabet Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Similarities and Differences, Relationships, Analytical Reasoning, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagrams, Puzzle, Data Sufficiency, Statement-Conclusion, Statement-Courses of Action, Decision Making, Maps, Interpretation of Graphs etc. c. General Awareness: Current Events of National and International Importance, Games and Sports, Art and Culture of India, Indian Literature, Monuments and Places of India, General Science and Life Science (up to 10th CBSE), History of India and Freedom Struggle, Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India and World, Indian Polity and Governance (constitution and political system), General Scientific and Technological Developments (including Space and Nuclear Program of India), UN and Other important World Organizations, Environmental Issues Concerning India and World at Large, Basics of Computers and Computer Applications, Common Abbreviations, Transport Systems in India, Indian Economy, Famous Personalities of India and World, Flagship Government Programs, Flora and Fauna of India, Important Government and Public Sector Organizations of India etc.

Minimum Percentage of Marks for Eligibility (1st Stage CBT):

  • UR: 40%
  • EWS: 40%
  • OBC (Non creamy layer): 30%
  • SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%

These percentages may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates if there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.

2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • Shortlisting of Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT will be based on normalized marks obtained in the 1st Stage CBT.
  • Total candidates shortlisted will be 15 times the community-wise vacancies. Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit to ensure adequate candidates.

13.2.1 2nd Stage CBT Examination Details

  • Exam Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
  • No. of Questions (each of 1 mark):
    • General Awareness: 50 questions
    • Mathematics: 35 questions
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 35 questions
    • Total: 120 questions
  • The section-wise distribution is indicative and may vary. Negative marking applies, with 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Questions will be objective type with multiple choices.

Syllabus for 2nd Stage CBT:

a. Mathematics: Same as 1st Stage CBT. b. General Intelligence and Reasoning: Same as 1st Stage CBT. c. General Awareness: Same as 1st Stage CBT.

13.2.2 Minimum Percentage of Marks for Eligibility (2nd Stage CBT)

  • UR: 40%
  • EWS: 40%
  • OBC (Non creamy layer): 30%
  • SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%

These percentages may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates if there is a shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.

13.2.3 and 13.2.4 Normalization of Marks

  • Normalized marks from the 2nd Stage CBT will be used for shortlisting candidates for Document Verification for posts without Typing Skill Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), and for the Typing Skill Test/CBAT for posts requiring them.
  • Shortlisting for various stages will be based on normalized marks whenever CBT is conducted in multiple sessions.

13.3 Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) - For Station Master / Traffic Assistant

  • CBAT will be conducted after qualifying the 2nd Stage CBT, only for candidates who opted for Station Master / Traffic Assistant.
  • Qualifying Marks: Candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries. This is applicable to all candidates, irrespective of community or category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/ExSM), and no relaxation in the minimum T-Score is permissible.
  • Candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies for Station Master / Traffic Assistant per community will be shortlisted for CBAT based on 2nd Stage CBT performance.
  • Shortlisted candidates must produce the Vision Certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure VII in original during CBAT, failing which they will not be allowed to appear. A declaration in Annexure VII(A) must be submitted during DV.
  • Candidates must qualify in each test battery of CBAT. Questions and answer options will be in English and Hindi only. No negative marking in CBAT.
  • Merit List for SM/Traffic Assistant: Drawn only from CBAT qualified candidates, with 70% weightage for 2nd Stage CBT marks and 30% weightage for CBAT marks.
  • Candidates are advised to visit the RDSO website (www.rdso.indianrailways.gov.in ->Directorates->Psycho Technical Directorate ->Guidelines for Aptitude Test) for CBAT question patterns and details.

13.4 Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST)

  • Applicable for posts of Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist.
  • Qualifying nature; marks obtained in CBTST will not be added for merit.
  • Candidates equal to 8 times the number of vacancies per community will be called.
  • Typing speed required: 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a Personal Computer only, without editing tools and spell check facility. Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts will be available for Hindi typing.
  • Exemption: Candidates with permanent disabilities (Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy & Loco Motor Disability with not less than 40% permanent disability) are exempt. They must upload a scanned copy of their Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate (Annexure V(H)) issued by the Competent Medical Board.
  • Merit will be drawn based on 2nd Stage CBT performance for qualified or exempted candidates.

13.6 Document Verification and Empanelment

a. Shortlisting for DV and Empanelment: Based strictly on merit from CBT/CBAT/CBTST performance, subject to minimum qualifying marks. Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS 40%, OBC (Non creamy layer) 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. This also applies to Ex. Servicemen. A 2-mark relaxation in minimum qualifying marks will be given for PwBD candidates if there is a shortfall. b. Candidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1 ratio) will be called for document verification. c. Tie-breaking: If multiple candidates secure equal marks, the older candidate will be given higher merit. If age is also the same, alphabetical order (A to Z) of names will determine merit. d. Candidates must produce original certificates during document verification. No extra time will be given, and failure to produce originals will result in forfeiture of candidature. e. Empanelment is based on merit, successful document verification, and passing the prescribed medical examination. f. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to passing the requisite Medical Fitness Test by the Railway Administration/RRB, final verification of educational and community certificates, and verification of antecedents/character. g. Upon completion of all recruitment stages, RRB will allot Railway zone/Production unit based on candidate options, merit, medical standard, and vacancy. Once empanelled, candidates forfeit the right to be considered for their preference in the next priority zone/unit. RRBs may allot un-opted zones/units in administrative interest, provided candidates meet eligibility requirements. h. RRBs only recommend names of empanelled candidates to the Railway Administrations; the actual offer of appointment is issued by the respective Railway Administrations. i. In case of any shortfall or exigencies, RRBs reserve the right to utilize candidates lower in the merit list (as per merit and options), but this does not confer a vested right to appointment.
