Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) are autonomous organizations under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. KVS operates with its Headquarters in New Delhi, 25 Regional offices, and 1288 Kendriya Vidyalayas across India (including 03 abroad) and five Zonal Institutes of Education & Training (ZIETs). NVS has its Hqrs Office in NOIDA (Uttar Pradesh), 08 Regional Offices, and 653 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) functional all over India (except Tamil Nadu).

CBSE, on behalf of KVS and NVS, invites online applications from eligible Indian citizens for recruitment to various teaching and non-teaching posts.

Essential & Desirable Qualifications and Pay Scale

Assistant Commissioner (Academics) in NVS & Assistant Commissioner in KVS:

  • Pay Scale: Level-12 (Rs.78800-209200) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 45 years (NVS) / 50 years (KVS)
  • Essential Qualifications: Master's Degree (at least 50% marks), B.Ed. (at least 50% marks), and at least 3 years' experience as Principal in Central/State/Autonomous Organizations. Knowledge of computer applications, Hindi and English is desirable.

Principal:

  • Pay Scale: Level-12 (Rs.78800-209200) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Minimum 35 years and Maximum 50 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Master's Degree (at least 50% marks), Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed.) (at least 50% marks), and relevant experience as Principal/Vice-Principal/PGT/Lecturer.

Vice-Principal in KVS:

  • Pay Scale: Level-10 (Rs.56100-177500) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Minimum 35 years and Maximum 45 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Master's Degree (at least 50% marks), B.Ed. (at least 50% marks), and relevant experience as Vice Principal/PGT/Lecturer.

Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) (General Subjects/Computer Science/Physical Education/Modern Indian Language):

  • Pay Scale: Level-8 (Rs.47600-151100) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 40 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Integrated Post Graduate Course/Master's Degree in concerned subject (at least 50% marks) along with B.Ed. degree (at least 50% marks). Specific subject combinations apply. Proficiency to teach in Hindi and English medium.

Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, 3rd Language, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Computer Science, Music, Art, Physical Education, Work Experience) & Librarian:

  • Pay Scale: Level-7 (Rs.44900-142400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 35 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Four years integrated degree course / Bachelor's/Honours Degree with at least 50% marks in concerned subject(s), along with B.Ed. degree (at least 50% marks). Qualification in Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Paper-II is required for most TGT posts (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, 3rd Language, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Special Educator).

Special Educator (TGT):

  • Pay Scale: Level-7 (Rs.44900-142400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 35 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Graduation (at least 50% marks), B.Ed. Special Education or equivalent diploma, CTET Paper-II, and Registration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

Primary Teachers (PRT) & PRT (Music) & Special Educator (PRT):

  • Pay Scale: Level-6 (Rs.35400-112400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education / 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). For PRT (Music), Bachelor Degree in Music/Performing Arts. For Special Educator (PRT), XII pass with minimum 50% marks and D.Ed. Special Education or equivalent diploma. CTET Paper-I is essential for most PRT posts.

Administrative Officer:

  • Pay Scale: Level-10 (Rs.56100-177500) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 45 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Graduate from recognized university/Institute and three years' regular service as Section Officer in pay level 7.

Finance Officer:

  • Pay Scale: Level-7 (Rs.44900-142400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 35 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Commerce (at least 50% marks) with at least 4 years' post-qualification experience in Audit and Accounts works OR Bachelor's Degree with CA (Inter) or ICWA (Inter) or MBA (Finance) (02 years full time) with 4 years' post-qualification experience.

Assistant Engineer:

  • Pay Scale: Level-7 (Rs.44900-142400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 35 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Graduate in Civil/Electrical Engineering from recognized university/Institute and 2 years' experience in design and engineering.

Assistant Section Officer:

  • Pay Scale: Level-6 (Rs.35400-112400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 35 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from recognized university/Institute and working as UDC/SSA or equivalent on regular basis for minimum 3 years.

Junior Translator:

  • Pay Scale: Level-6 (Rs.35400-112400) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Master's degree in Hindi with English/Master's degree in English with Hindi as compulsory/elective subjects or medium of examination at degree level, along with a recognized Diploma/Certificate course in translation or 2 years' experience in translation work.

Senior Secretariat Assistant:

  • Pay Scale: Level-4 (Rs.25500-81100) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from recognized university/Institute or equivalent and working as JSA/LDC or equivalent on regular basis for minimum 3 years.

Stenographer Grade-I & Grade-II:

  • Pay Scale: Level-6 (Rs.35400-112400) for Gr-I / Level-4 (Rs.25500-81100) for Gr-II
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years for Gr-I / Not exceeding 27 years for Gr-II
  • Essential Qualifications: Graduate from recognized university/Institute. Specific Shorthand and Typing speeds required. For Gr-I, 5 years' experience as Stenographer Gr II on regular basis.

Junior Secretariat Assistant:

  • Pay Scale: Level-2 (Rs.19900-63200) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 27 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Class XII pass or equivalent and possessing minimum typing speed (35 w.p.m. in English or 30 w.p.m. in Hindi for KVS; 30 w.p.m. in English or 25 w.p.m. in Hindi for NVS).

Lab Attendant:

  • Pay Scale: Level-1 (Rs.18000-56900) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
  • Essential Qualifications: 10th Class pass with a certificate/Diploma in Laboratory Technique OR 12th Class with Science stream from a recognized Board/University.

Multi-Tasking Staff (HQ/RO Cadre):

  • Pay Scale: Level-1 (Rs.18000-56900) in the Pay Matrix
  • Upper Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years
  • Essential Qualifications: Class X from a recognized board.

Age Relaxation

The maximum relaxation in the upper age limit will be as follows:

  • Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe: 5 years
  • Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
  • Women (All Categories) applying for PGTs, TGTs, Librarians, PRTs: 10 years
  • Regular NVS Employees for posts in NVS: 5 years
  • Regular KVS Employees for posts in KVS: 5 years
  • Candidates with 3 years continuous service in Central Govt. (same or allied cadres): 5 years for General, 8 years for OBC, 10 years for SC/ST.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years for General, 13 years for OBC (NCL), 15 years for SC/ST (additional 5 years for KVS employees).
  • For Multi-Tasking Staff (HQ/RO Cadre) in NVS: 5 years for NVS employees (including contract/daily wage basis).
  • Ex-Servicemen: Age relaxation as per GOI rules (detailed in the notification).

Cut-Off Date

The cut-off date for determining various eligibility criteria (Educational Qualifications, Experience, age limit etc.) will be the closing date for submission of online applications in India, i.e., 04th December 2025.

EWS Reservation

Candidates not covered under SC/ST/OBC (NCL) reservation, with a family gross annual income below Rs.8 Lakh, and not possessing specific assets (e.g., 5 Acres of agriculture land, 1000 Sq Ft residential flat) are eligible for EWS reservation. A valid Income and Asset Certificate (as per PERFORMA - III) as on the closing date of online application is required.

Mode of Selection

1. Two-tier examination followed by Interview (for Assistant Commissioner, Principal, Vice-Principal, PGT, TGT including Librarian, PRT):

  • The merit list will be prepared by giving weightage of 85% to marks obtained in Tier-2 and 15% to the Interview (100 marks).

2. Two-tier examination followed by Skill Test (for Stenographer Gr. I & II, Junior Secretariat Assistant):

  • The merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in Tier-2, subject to qualifying the skill test.

3. Two-tier examination only (for Assistant Section Officer, Lab Attendant, Senior Secretariat Assistant, Multi-Tasking Staff):

  • The merit list will be prepared solely on the basis of marks obtained in Tier-2.

Tier-1 (Preliminary / Qualifying) Examination:

  • Mode: OMR (Objective) Mode
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Content (All posts except Multi-Tasking Staff in NVS): General Reasoning (20 Q, 60 marks), Numeric Ability (20 Q, 60 marks), Basic Computer Literacy (20 Q, 60 marks), General Knowledge (20 Q, 60 marks), Language Competency Test (English 10 Q, 30 marks, One other Modern Indian Language 10 Q, 30 marks). Total 100 Q, 300 marks.
  • Content (For Multi-Tasking Staff in NVS): General Awareness & Current Affairs (20 Q, 60 marks), Basic Knowledge of Computer Operation (40 Q, 120 marks), Language Competency Test (English 20 Q, 60 marks, One other Modern Indian Language 20 Q, 60 marks). Total 100 Q, 300 marks.
  • Bilingual: Part I to IV (for all posts) and Part I & II (for Multi-Tasking Staff) will be bilingual (English and one of 12 other Modern Indian Languages). Language Competency Tests (Part V & VI for all posts, Part III & IV for MTS) will be in English/concerned language only.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark (1 mark) will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Shortlisting for Tier-2: Candidates will be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:10 (relative to notified vacancies).

Tier-2 (Subject Knowledge Examination):

  • Mode: Pen-Paper and OMR Based
  • Duration: 2½ hours
  • Content: Subject Knowledge Examination as per detailed syllabus on KVS and NVS websites. Separate for each post. Bilingual (Hindi & English) except for PGT (Modern Indian Language) and TGT (3rd Language) where it will be in the language concerned.
  • Negative Marking: 1/4th mark (0.25 marks) will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Shortlisting for Interview: Candidates will be shortlisted from Tier-2 in the ratio of 1:3.
  • Shortlisting for Skill Test: Candidates will be shortlisted from Tier-2 in the ratio of 1:5.

Skill Test (where applicable):

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (KVS): Typing Test (English-35 w.p.m. or Hindi-30 w.p.m.) and Computer Proficiency Test (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, internet – minimum 40% marks).
  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (NVS): Typing Test (English-30 w.p.m. or Hindi-25 w.p.m.).
  • Stenographer Gr-I & Gr-II: Shorthand Test (Dictation 10 minutes @ 80 w.p.m.) and Transcription (50 min English / 65 min Hindi) and Typing Test (English-40 w.p.m. or Hindi-35 w.p.m. for Gr-II).

Process of Allocation of Candidates

After the merit list is prepared, candidates will submit their preferences for KVS and NVS posts in the online portal. Allotment will be strictly based on merit and the submitted choices.

Examination Centres

  • For Assistant Commissioner (Academics), Assistant Commissioner, Principal, and Vice-Principal, the examination center for Tier-1 and Tier-2 will be at Delhi/NCR only.
  • For other posts, cities of examination will be decided based on the number of applicants. CBSE reserves the right to allot a Centre anywhere in India.

Application Fee

Candidates are required to pay an examination fee and a processing fee online. In case a candidate applies for similar posts in both KVS and NVS, fee is payable for a single post only.

  • SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from the examination fee but must pay the processing fee of Rs.500/-.
  • GST as applicable will be charged extra by the Bank.
  • Fee once deposited is non-refundable.

How to Apply

  • Applications must be submitted online only through the official websites. Applications submitted by any other means will not be accepted.
  • Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates can apply for as many posts as they wish, paying requisite fees separately for each. However, within PGTs/TGTs, a candidate shall apply for only one subject/post.
  • Candidates need a valid personal email ID and mobile number, which should be kept active.
  • Fill all particulars carefully, and upload a recent photograph and signature. No modifications are allowed after submission.

  • Selected candidates will initially be on probation for two years, which may be extended.
