Indian History: Harappan civilization, Mauryan Empire, Gupta Empire, Harshavardhan, accounts of social life given by travelers in the subcontinent from 11th to 14th century, Bhakti-Sufi traditions of medieval India, Vijayanagar Empire, Mughal Empire, East India Company and colonialism in India, Revolt of 1857, colonial urbanization and town planning, Mahatma Gandhi and national movement, making of the Constitution.
Integration and reorganization within the country after independence.
Main features of Indian society, diversity of India.
Demographics of India and Madhya Pradesh, along with tribes of Madhya Pradesh.
Role of women and women's organizations, population and related issues, poverty and developmental issues, urbanization, their problems and remedies.
Impact of globalization on Indian society.
Part "B": Governance, Constitution and Polity, Social Justice and Legislation (150 Marks)
Indian Constitution: Historical basis, evolution, features, amendments, important provisions and basic structure.
Functions and responsibilities of the Union and the States, issues and challenges relating to the federal structure, devolution of powers and finances up to local levels and challenges therein.
Separation of powers between various organs, dispute redressal mechanisms and institutions.
Parliament and State Legislatures: Structure, functioning, conduct of business, powers and privileges and issues arising out of these.
Structure, organization and functioning of the Executive and the Judiciary: Ministries and Departments of the Government, Pressure Groups and formal/informal associations and their role in politics.
Welfare schemes for vulnerable sections of the population by the Centre and States and the performance of these schemes, mechanisms, laws, institutions and bodies constituted for the protection and betterment of these vulnerable sections.
