This advertisement (No. 05/2025) is for direct recruitment to the vacant posts of Police Sub-Inspector in the Home Department (Police Branch) of the Government of Bihar, based on a competitive examination. The recruitment process will be conducted by the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission.

Eligibility Criteria
- Citizenship: Must be an Indian citizen. Men, women, and third-gender candidates can apply.
- Educational Qualification: Must possess a graduation degree from a recognized university or an equivalent examination by 01.08.2025.
- Age Limit (as of 01.08.2025, based on Matriculation/equivalent certificate):
- Unreserved (General) Category:
- Men: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 37 years.
- Women: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 40 years.
- Backward Class & Extremely Backward Class:
- Men and Women: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 40 years.
- Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe & Third Gender:
- Men and Women: Minimum 20 years, Maximum 42 years.
- Note: Minimum age will be calculated as of 01.08.2025, and maximum age as of 01.08.2024.
- Age Relaxation:
- Bihar Government Employees: 5 years for those with a minimum of 3 years of regular service.
- Ex-servicemen: 3 years plus the period of service in defense, provided the actual age does not exceed 57 years on the cut-off date.
Physical Standards (No marks will be awarded)
a) Height:
- Unreserved (General) & Backward Class men: Minimum 165 cm.
- Extremely Backward Class, Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe men: Minimum 160 cm.
- All categories women: Minimum 155 cm.
b) Chest (Only for men):
- Unreserved (General)/Backward Class/Extremely Backward Class men:
- Unexpanded: Minimum 81 cm.
- Expanded: Minimum 86 cm. (Minimum 5 cm difference required).
- Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe men:
- Unexpanded: Minimum 79 cm.
- Expanded: Minimum 84 cm. (Minimum 5 cm difference required).
- Chest measurement is not applicable for women.
c) Weight:
- All categories women: Minimum 48 kg.
d) Third Gender (Kinnar/Kothi/Hijra/Transgender): Physical standards and Physical Efficiency Test criteria will be the same as for Backward Class women.
Recruitment Process
The selection process will involve the following stages:
A) Written Competitive Examination:
- Applications will be scrutinized, and eligible candidates will undergo a written competitive examination.
- The written examination will be in two phases: Preliminary and Main. All papers will consist of multiple-choice questions.

First Stage: Preliminary Examination
- Marks: 200 marks.
- Number of Questions: 100.
- Duration: 2 hours.
- Syllabus: General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
- Qualifying Criteria: Candidates must score a minimum of 30% marks to qualify for the Main Examination. The number of successful candidates selected for the Main Examination will be 20 times the total vacancies, category-wise. The Equi-Percentile Method will be used for normalization if the examination is conducted in multiple shifts.

Second Stage: Main Examination
- The Main Examination will consist of two papers:
- Paper 1: General Hindi
- Marks: 200 marks.
- Number of Questions: 100.
- Duration: 2 hours.
- Qualifying Criteria: A minimum of 30% marks is mandatory for qualification; otherwise, candidates will be disqualified. Marks obtained in General Hindi will not be included in the merit list.
- Paper 2: General Studies
- Marks: 200 marks.
- Number of Questions: 100.
- Duration: 2 hours.
- Syllabus: General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics, and Mental Ability Test.
- Negative Marking: For both preliminary and main examinations, 0.2 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
- Selection for PET: Based on the merit of the Main Written Examination, candidates numbering 6 times the total vacancies (category-wise) will be selected for the Physical Efficiency Test.
B) Third Stage: Physical Eligibility/Efficiency Test (Qualifying only)
Candidates must successfully qualify in all physical events.

Race:
- Men (All Categories): 1 mile (1.6 km) in a maximum of 6 minutes 30 seconds. Exceeding this time will lead to disqualification.
- Women (All Categories): 1 km in a maximum of 6 minutes. Exceeding this time will lead to disqualification.

High Jump:
- Men (All Categories): Minimum 4 feet. Jumping less than 4 feet will lead to disqualification.
- Women (All Categories): Minimum 3 feet. Jumping less than 3 feet will lead to disqualification.

Long Jump:
- Men (All Categories): Minimum 12 feet. Jumping less than 12 feet will lead to disqualification.
- Women (All Categories): Minimum 9 feet. Jumping less than 9 feet will lead to disqualification.

Shot Put:
- Men (All Categories): 16-pound shot, minimum 16 feet throw. Throwing less than 16 feet will lead to disqualification.
- Women (All Categories): 12-pound shot, minimum 10 feet throw. Throwing less than 10 feet will lead to disqualification.
- Note: Candidates who complete the race within the stipulated time but fail to meet the minimum standards in high jump, long jump, or shot put will be disqualified and will not be allowed to participate in other events. Candidates must qualify in all events separately. A maximum of three chances will be given for high jump, long jump, and shot put.
Reservation Policy
- Reservation will be applied as per the Bihar Reservation Act, 1991 (Bihar Act 3, 1992), with amendments from time to time.
- Women: 35% horizontal reservation for women across all categories, with an additional 3% horizontal reservation for Backward Class women. This 35% horizontal reservation is applicable only to women who are original residents of Bihar.
- Freedom Fighters' Grandchildren: 2% horizontal reservation is provided for the grandchildren of Bihar state freedom fighters who receive a pension from the Central Government.
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): Reservation provisions as per the Bihar Reservation Act, 2019, will apply. EWS certificates based on income and assets for the financial year 2024-2025 will be admissible.
- Third Gender: Transgender (Kinnar/Kothi/Hijra) individuals are included in the Backward Class list and will receive reservation benefits applicable to Backward Classes in state government services.
- Domicile Clause: Reservation benefits are only for original residents of Bihar. Applicants from other states will be treated as Unreserved candidates and must apply as such.
Merit List and Appointment Recommendation
- The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the Main Written Examination, category-wise. In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate will be given preference. If age is also the same, the candidate with a higher educational qualification will be preferred. If educational qualification is also the same, preference will be based on the alphabetical order of names as per the 10th board certificate.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks for Final Merit List (from Main Exam):
- Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Women: 32%.
- Extremely Backward Class: 34%.
- Backward Class: 36.5%.
- General: 40%.
- Recommendations for finally selected candidates will be sent by the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission to the concerned 'Appointing Authority'.
Appointing Authority
The Deputy Inspector General of Police will be the 'Appointing Authority' for the post of Police Sub-Inspector.
Medical Examination, Character, and Antecedent Verification
All selected candidates will undergo a medical examination, character, and antecedent verification as per the rules of the appointing authority. Candidates found ineligible or concealing facts will be disqualified.
Online Application Process
- Candidates must apply online through the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission's website: https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in under the "Bihar Police" Tab.
- A valid and active mobile number and email ID are mandatory for registration and will be used for all communications.
- Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple applications will lead to rejection of all applications.
- Candidates must ensure all eligibility criteria are met before applying.
Application Fee
- The application fee is Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) for all categories (men, women, and third-gender candidates).
- Payment must be made online via Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI transactions. Other payment modes are not acceptable.
- Bank charges, if any, for transactions will be borne by the applicant.
- The application fee is non-refundable after successful payment.
Important Instructions for Filling Online Application
- Read all instructions thoroughly before applying.
- Provide accurate information. Any false information will lead to cancellation of candidature and legal action.
- The application process involves two parts: Part 1 (Registration) and Part 2 (Form Submission).
- Part 1: Registration involves entering personal details (name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar domicile, reservation category, gender, date of birth) and making the payment. An edit option is available before payment. Registration ID and password will be sent via SMS/Email.
- Part 2: After successful registration, log in to fill in details like father/husband's name, mother's name, address, and educational qualifications. Upload a recent (within two months) colored photograph (15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif, white background) and separate Hindi and English signatures (15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif, black/blue ink, white background).
- Failure to adhere to photo and signature specifications will lead to the cancellation of the application.
- Candidates can edit details using the "Edit Details" button before final submission. No changes are allowed after final submission.
- Keep a printout of the Acknowledgement for future reference.
- If an applicant submits an erroneous application and wishes to correct it, they can use the "Cancel Registration Form" option, but the previously paid fee will not be refunded, and a new fee must be paid for re-application.
Cancellation of Candidature
Candidature may be cancelled without assigning any reason on the following grounds:
- Incomplete application (Part 1 registered but Part 2 not submitted).
- Failure to upload photo/signature, or uploading someone else's.
- Non-payment of application fee, or chargeback.
- Providing false information.
- Incorrect claim of reservation category.
- Discrepancies found during document verification.
- Incorrect date of birth or gender.
- Not meeting eligibility criteria (age, qualification, citizenship).
- Failure to submit required certificates from competent authorities.
- Submitting incorrect forms of certificates (e.g., married women claiming reservation based on husband's caste/domicile certificate).
- Involvement in criminal activities or misconduct during the examination process.
- Attempting to cheat, impersonate, or bribe examination staff.
- Any other violation of the advertisement terms.
Admit Card
Admit cards for the written examination will be issued online after the last date for applications. Information will be published in newspapers and on the commission's website. SMS/Email notifications may also be sent. Keep your registered mobile phone and email ID active.
Provisions for Pregnant Women
Married women found pregnant during the medical examination for the Physical Eligibility Test will not be allowed to participate in the race and physical efficiency test and will be declared disqualified. They will be required to submit a non-pregnancy declaration form.
Selection Process Duration
The entire selection process is estimated to take approximately 6 months. Candidates are advised to ensure their availability for the written test, physical efficiency test, and document verification. No requests for time extension due to personal, family, medical, or pregnancy reasons will be entertained.
