Engagement of 4116 Apprentices Under the Apprentices Act 1961 Over Northern Railway

Overview

Railway Recruitment Cell, Northern Railway (RRC/NR) invites online applications from eligible and desirous candidates for the engagement of 4116 Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act 1961. The training will be imparted at various Divisions/Units/Workshops over Northern Railway. Please note that imparting training in Railway will not confer any right for absorption into Railway service after successful completion of training. It is not obligatory for the employer to offer employment or for the apprentice to accept it.

Candidates are advised to carefully read all instructions and ensure eligibility before applying online. To avoid last-minute issues due to heavy website load, candidates should submit their applications well before the closing date. RRC will not be responsible for applications not submitted on time due to unforeseen circumstances.

  • Date and Time of Opening of Online Application: 2025-11-25 (12:00 Hrs)
  • Date & Time of Closing of Online Application: 2025-12-24 (23:59 Hrs)
  • Expected Date of Display of Merit: February 2026

Details of Trade

The details regarding trade-wise and Division/Workshop-wise training slots, including the number of applicants to be engaged and the break-up of reservation for SC/ST/OBC categories, Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD), and Ex-servicemen, are provided in Annexure-"A" of the official notification.

Candidates must thoroughly review the available trade-wise training slots for their respective ITI trades and select the appropriate Cluster and Units. Applications for clusters/units where training slots for a candidate's trade are not notified will be summarily rejected, and no application fee will be refunded.

General Instructions

  • The number of training slots is provisional and may increase or decrease based on administrative needs at the time of selection finalization. This includes PwBD and Ex-SM slots.
  • No changes to the application will be allowed after final submission.
  • Candidates can submit only one application. Multiple applications will lead to the summary rejection of all applications, with no fee refund.
  • Reservation rules apply for SC/ST/OBC categories if candidates are not available in the prescribed numbers.
  • Ex-servicemen candidates selected under reservation will be placed in the appropriate category (UR/SC/ST/OBC). Ex-servicemen, their children, and children of Armed Force personnel will be engaged for Apprenticeship as per specific details provided in the notification.
  • PwBD candidates availing reservation must produce a disability certificate issued by a competent authority (Medical Board) constituted by Central or State Government. Their disability must be suitable for the notified trade as per the Act Apprentice Rules.

Essential Qualification (as on 2025-11-18)

Candidates must have:

  • Passed SSC/Matriculation/10th class examination or its equivalent (under the 10+2 examination system) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized Board.
  • Passed ITI in the relevant trade, issued by NCVT/SCVT and recognized by the Government of India.

Note: Candidates must have already passed the prescribed qualifications on the date of notification. Applicants whose SSC/Matriculation/10th and ITI results are awaited are NOT eligible to apply.

Age Limit (as on 2025-12-24, 23:59 Hrs)

  • Candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 24 years of age as on 2025-12-24.
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST candidates: 05 years.
    • OBC candidates: 03 years.
    • Persons with Disability (PwBD): 10 years.
    • Ex-servicemen: Up to an additional 10 years (service rendered in Defence Forces + 03 years, with a minimum of 6 months service at a stretch).

Certificates for Reservation Benefits

  • SC/ST candidates must produce a Caste Certificate in the Central Government format issued by the appropriate authority at the time of Document Verification.
  • OBC candidates must produce a Caste Certificate and Non-Creamy Layer Certificate valid for the current year 2025-26, issued on or after 2025-01-01 in the Central Government format.
  • Ex-servicemen and Armed Forces Personnel's children must produce a Discharge certificate or Armed Forces serving certificate of their parents at the time of Document Verification.
  • PwBD candidates must produce a PH/PWD certificate issued by a competent authority.

Application Fee (Non-Refundable)

  • Fee: Rs. 100/-
  • Payment Method: To be paid ONLINE as part of the online application process. No Cash/Cheque/Money order/IPO/Demand Draft/Central Recruitment Fee Stamps will be accepted.
  • Transaction charges, if any, will be borne by the candidates.
  • Fee Exemption: No fee is required for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates.

Mode of Selection

  • Selection will be based on the screening and scrutiny of applications. There will be no written test or viva.
  • Merit will be prepared by taking the average of the percentage marks obtained by the candidate in both Matriculation/SSC/10th (with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks) and ITI examination, giving equal weightage to both.
  • Tie-breaking Criteria:
    1. Candidate with older age.
    2. Candidate who passed the matriculation exam earlier.
  • A final merit list will be prepared cluster-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise, based on the descending order of percentage of marks.
  • Any discrepancy found in the Marks/CGPA entered in the online application versus the original marksheet/certificate at the time of Document Verification will lead to summary rejection of candidature.

Calculation of Marks

  • For Boards with a grading system for Matriculation/SSC/10th, RRC will use the midpoint of the grade range. The average will be calculated assuming each subject is out of 100 marks.
  • CGPA/Grades must be converted to actual marks and entered by the applicant. The final score should be calculated by adding marks from all subjects.
  • For ITI marks, the average marks mentioned in the consolidated statement of marks for all semesters or the Provisional National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT will be considered.

Medical Fitness & Physical Standards

  • Candidates must satisfy the minimum physical fitness standards prescribed in the Apprentices Act 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules 1992.
  • A medical certificate, signed by a Govt. authorized doctor (GAZ) not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of Central/State Hospital, is required at the Document Verification.
  • Maximum Extent of Disability for PwBD (Category-wise & Trade-wise):
    • Locomotor Disability (LD):
      • Fitter/Turner: Lower limb partially damaged from one side.
      • Welder(G&E): Person without a leg and without three fingers of one hand.
      • Electrician: Partially lower limb.
      • Machinist: Only small finger damaged.
      • Painter (General)/Carpenter: Once upper & lower limb partially damaged.
      • Mechanic (Motor Vehicle)/Mechanic (Diesel): Upper limb partially damaged (Little finger and Ring finger) for both hands; lower limb partially damaged only one side.
      • Refrigerator AC Mechanic: Only one lower limb partially working; small finger of each hand damaged.
    • Visually Impaired (VI):
      • Trades: Fitter/Turner/Machinist/Carpenter/Painter General/Mechanical (Diesel)/Electrician/Wireman/Refrigerator AC Mechanic.
      • Definition: Low vision (vision < 6/18 to 6/60 with best corrections) or impairment of field (reduction < 50 degrees, Heminaopia with macular involvement, Altitudinal defect involving lower fields).
    • Hearing Impaired (HI):
      • Trades: Fitter/Welder (G & E)/Turner/Machinist/Carpenter/Painter General/Mechanic (Diesel)/Mechanic (Motor Vehicle)/Electrician/Wireman.
      • Disability: Deaf, Dumb, or Deaf & Dumb.
    • Multiple Disabilities (MD): Candidates with more than one disability will be treated as Multiple Disabilities.

Period of Training & Stipend

As per extant rules applicable.

Agreement of Training

Before commencing apprenticeship training, the selected candidate (or guardian, if minor) must enter into a Contract of Apprenticeship Training with the employer.

Important General Instructions

  • Notified training slots are subject to increase or decrease.
  • Mere registration/filling of online application does not guarantee eligibility for the selection process.
  • Railway Administration reserves the right to engage eligible candidates.
  • All decisions by the Railway Administration regarding eligibility, selection, rejection, etc., are final and binding.
  • No TA/DA or accommodation will be provided for appearing in the selection process.
  • The Railway Administration may change the date, place, postpone, or cancel the process without prior notice.
  • Concealment of any fact or furnishing wrong/fake information/certificates will lead to rejection/discharge of candidature at any stage, with possible legal action.
  • Impersonation or using unfair means will result in debarment for life from all RRB/RRC examinations and legal action.
  • Candidates who have been debarred by RRB/RRC should not apply.
  • Any subsequent changes in the terms and conditions of the notice will be binding.
  • RRC reserves the right to reject candidature due to any irregularity/deficiency.
  • The jurisdiction for any legal dispute will be New Delhi.
  • In case of any dispute regarding interpretation or mistake, the English version of the notice will be treated as final.
  • Canvassing, misbehavior, or misconduct will lead to summary rejection and cancellation of candidature.
  • No hostel accommodation will be provided; selected candidates must arrange their own accommodation.

Invalid Application Criteria

Applications will be summarily rejected if any of the following deficiencies or discrepancies are found:

  • Incomplete application.
  • Applications without photograph, LHT impression, unsigned application/signature in capital or different places.
  • Scanned photos with goggles, cap, wig, colored glasses, disfigured, or small size.
  • Application without fee or with less fee (unless exempted).
  • Applications without proof of date of birth, 10th pass mark sheet, ITI trade certificate, and mark sheets.
  • Missing relevant certificates for age/fee relaxation.
  • Multiple applications with minor changes or varied details for the same trade.
  • Application without a valid community certificate in the Central Government format.
  • Candidates who are over age or under age.
  • Self-attested photocopies of requisite certificates not uploaded.
  • Not possessing educational qualification & ITI qualification at the time of applying.
  • Application filled in a language other than English or Hindi.
  • Any other irregularities deemed invalid by RRC.

How to Apply (Online Application Steps)

  1. Click on the link "Engagement of Act Apprentice" Online Application.
  2. Refer to the RRC Website for the official notification.
  3. Candidate Registration: Fill in details such as Name, Father's Name, Community, Category, Mobile No., Email ID, and Date of Birth. Upon successful registration, a password will be sent via Email and SMS for login.
  4. Log in to the "Candidate Dashboard," which contains the Application Form, Payment of Online Fee, and Upload Documents sections.
  5. Fill out the Application Form, pay the online fee (if not exempted), and upload the required documents. Ensure that Photograph, Signature, and Thumb Impression are between 10 KB and 50 KB (JPG format). Upload certificates for Education, Caste, PwBD, and Ex-SM.
  6. Submit the application. Candidates should print the application and fee payment slip for their records.
  7. The Candidate Dashboard will reappear, allowing for printing of Photo/Signature/Thumb Impression and Application Details/Print.

Enclosures to be Uploaded with Online Applications

Applicants must upload the following documents/certificates (failing which the application will be rejected):

  • Proof of date of birth (SSC/Matriculation/10th certificate or DOB Certificate).
  • Proof of Essential educational qualification (SSC/Matriculation/10th pass Mark sheet & Certificate).
  • Consolidated ITI Mark Sheet of all semesters of the applied trade/Provisional National Trade Certificate.
  • National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT with mark sheet.
  • SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-SM certificates in the prescribed format (available on www.rrcnr.org).
  • Disability Certificate (for PwBD Applicants).
  • Discharge certificate/serving certificate (for Ex-servicemen quota applicants).

Note:

  • Certificates in languages other than English or Hindi must be accompanied by an attested copy of translation in English/Hindi.
  • Production of Original uploaded documents along with 2 self-attested photocopies during Document Verification in the concerned Divisions is mandatory. Applications without requisite enclosures will be summarily rejected, and no additional documents will be accepted during Document Verification.
