Applications are invited for the following posts with a Grand Total of 2569 vacancies across all RRBs:

  • Initial Pay: Rs. 35,400
  • Medical Standard: See Annexure-A
  • Age (as on 2026-01-01): 18-33 years

Important Instructions

  • Candidates must ensure they possess and fulfill all prescribed educational and technical qualifications on or before the closing date for application submission (2025-11-30).
  • Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the official RRB websites.
  • Multiple applications to different RRBs or the same RRB will lead to rejection of all applications.
  • Candidature is provisional, based on details furnished in the online application.
  • Crucial date for claiming reservation/relaxation benefits (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/EBC, fee concession, age-relaxation) is the closing date for submission of online applications.
  • Candidates must have their own active mobile number and a valid personal Email ID for all communications.
  • Candidates are advised to authenticate their identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during the 'Create an Account' stage for smoother verification.
  • Details filled in the 'Create an Account' form (including mobile number and Email ID) and 'Chosen RRB' cannot be modified at any stage.
  • After submission, other details can be modified by paying a non-refundable modification fee of Rs. 250/- for each occasion.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark will be deducted for every wrong answer in CBT.
  • Candidates must upload a live photograph and their own signature as per specified instructions. Applications with blurred, illegible, or non-standard photographs and/or signatures are liable to be rejected.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Age limits are reckoned as on 2026-01-01.

  • Age Group (18-33 years):
    • Lower age limit (not born after): 2008-01-01 (for all communities/categories)
    • Upper age limit (Date of Birth not earlier than):
      • UR/EWS: 1993-01-02
      • OBC-NCL: 1990-01-02
      • SC/ST: 1988-01-02

Age Relaxation in Upper Age Limit:

  • SC & ST candidates: 5 Years
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates: 3 Years
  • Ex-servicemen (UR & EWS): 3 years (after deduction of length of service)
  • Ex-servicemen (OBC-NCL): 6 years (after deduction of length of service)
  • Ex-servicemen (SC & ST): 8 years (after deduction of length of service)
  • Persons With Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) - UR & EWS: 10 Years
  • PwBD - OBC(NCL): 13 Years
  • PwBD - SC & ST: 15 Years
  • Serving Group C & D Railway Staff (UR & EWS): 40 Years of age, (OBC-NCL): 43 Years of age, (SC & ST): 45 Years of age
  • Female candidates (widowed, divorced or judicially separated but not remarried) - UR & EWS: 35 years of age, (OBC-NCL): 38 years of age, (SC & ST): 40 years of age

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must possess the prescribed educational/technical/professional qualifications from a recognized Institute/University as on the closing date of application (2025-11-30). Those awaiting final results are NOT eligible.

Examination Fee

  • For all candidates (except categories below): Rs. 500/-
    • Rs. 400/- shall be refunded upon appearing in 1st stage CBT.
  • For SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities or Economically Backward Class (EBC): Rs. 250/-
    • Rs. 250/- shall be refunded upon appearing in 1st stage CBT.

Modes of Fee Payment: ONLINE only through internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI.

Economically Backward Class (EBC) Concession

Candidates whose annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000/- are eligible for concessional fees. A valid EBC certificate (Annexure IIIA), BPL card, or Izzat MST issued on or before 2025-11-30 is required.

Reservation

  • Vertical Reservation: Provided for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (Non-Creamy Layer) (OBC-NCL) candidates as applicable.
  • Horizontal Reservation: Provided for Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Medical Fitness

Candidates must pass requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration. Visual Acuity Standard is important for Railway Service. Medical standards (A-3, B-1, C-1) are detailed in Para 3.0.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

  • PwBD candidates with 40% or more disability are eligible for relaxation/reservation.
  • Scribe facility is available for candidates in categories of Blindness, Locomotor Disability (Both Arm affected - BA), Cerebral Palsy, and other specified disabilities, upon production of a certificate.
  • Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination will be provided to eligible candidates using a scribe or those who opt out but are eligible.
  • Scribe eligible PwBD candidates must opt for a scribe in their online application and arrange for the scribe at their own cost. Scribes must be registered at rrbapply.gov.in.

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process comprises the following stages:

  1. 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
  2. 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
  3. Document Verification (DV)
  4. Medical Examination (ME)

1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 Minutes for candidates eligible for a Scribe)
  • No. of Questions: 100
  • Syllabus: Objective type with multiple choices, covering:
    • Mathematics (30 questions, 30 marks)
    • General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 questions, 25 marks)
    • General Awareness (15 questions, 15 marks)
    • General Science (30 questions, 30 marks)
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deduction for each wrong answer.
  • Minimum Percentage of Marks for Eligibility: UR-40%, EWS-40%, OBC(NCL)-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%.

2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)

  • Shortlisting: Candidates for 2nd Stage CBT will be shortlisted based on normalized marks in 1st Stage CBT, at 15 times the community-wise total vacancy.
  • Duration: 120 minutes (160 Minutes for candidates eligible for a Scribe)
  • No. of Questions: 150
  • Syllabus: Objective type with multiple choices, covering:
    • General Awareness (15 questions, 15 marks)
    • Physics & Chemistry (15 questions, 15 marks)
    • Basics of Computers and Applications (10 questions, 10 marks)
    • Basics of Environment and Pollution Control (10 questions, 10 marks)
    • Technical Abilities (100 questions, 100 marks) - syllabus defined for various Exam Groups at Annexure-VII-A, B, C, D, & E.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deduction for each wrong answer.
  • Minimum Percentage of Marks for Eligibility: Same as CBT-I, with a relaxation of up to 2 marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage.
  • Virtual calculator will be available on the Computer Monitor.

Discipline Mapping Table

Annexure-VII provides tables mapping three-year Diploma in Engineering or Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology to specific Exam Groups (e.g., Mechanical and Allied Engineering, Electrical and Allied Engineering, Electronics and Allied Engineering, Civil and Allied Engineering, CMA Exam Group).

Document Verification (DV)

  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for DV equal to the number of vacancies based on marks and merit in 2nd stage CBT.
  • Candidates must produce original certificates at DV. No additional time will be given.

How to Apply

  • Candidates must create an account on rrbapply.gov.in.
  • A valid personal mobile number and active email ID are mandatory for account creation. Changes to these details are not permitted after account creation.
  • Medium of Examination: Questions for CBT will be available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional Indian languages.
  • Live Photo Capturing: Candidates are required to capture a live photograph using a webcam or front camera during the application process. Do not upload pre-existing photographs. Instructions for photo capture (e.g., non-white clothing, eye level, neutral expression, clear face, no caps/masks/glasses) must be followed.
  • Mandatory Scanned Documents: Candidate Signature (JPG/JPEG, 30-49 KB, 140x60 pixels min) and SC/ST Certificate (PDF, <400 KB, for free train travel pass).

Free Train Travel Facility

Free Sleeper Class Railway Pass will be provided to SC & ST candidates (on request) for CBT/DV/Medical Examination, downloadable with their e-call letter. Original community certificate and valid photo ID must be carried during travel.
