Selection Process – 2024 for the post of District Judge by Accelerated Promotion (10%)

Introduction

This notice from the High Court of Bombay announces the details for the Selection Process – 2024 for the post of District Judge by Accelerated Promotion (10%).

Background

As per Rule 5(1)(b) of the Maharashtra Judicial Service Rules, 2008, 10% of the posts of District Judges are to be filled by promotion strictly on the basis of merit through a Limited Competitive Examination from amongst Senior Civil Judges.

Examination Details

  • Date: Sunday, 8th December, 2024
  • Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Centre-wise venues of the examination are as follows:

  • 1) MUMBAI
    • Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, 'B' Road, Churchgate, Mumbai - 400 020.
  • 2) NAGPUR
    • Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research, Near Laxminagar Square, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur- 440 010.
  • 3) CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR
    • Deogiri College, Railway Station Road, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar - 431 005.

Eligible Candidates

The Centre-wise list of eligible Judicial Officers and instructions to the Judicial Officers are published with this notice. Call letters will be issued to these Judicial Officers for the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination by way of Accelerated Promotion (10%). The said call letters will be considered valid to appear for the examination.

General Instructions for Judicial Officers

  1. Admit Card: Candidates must bring their examination admit card (call letter). If the admit card is lost or not brought, identification proof issued by a Government Authority is required to prove identity.
  2. Reporting Time: Candidates must be present for the examination 45 minutes before the scheduled time (i.e., by 10:45 a.m.). No entry will be allowed after 11:30 a.m.
  3. Pre-Examination Process: Identification, distribution of answer sheets, and filling in necessary details will take place from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  4. Examination Start: The examination will start at 11:30 a.m. sharp. Time for marking answers will be 90 minutes.
  5. Leaving Examination Hall: No candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall on any count during the examination duration.
  6. Writing Instrument: Candidates must bring a black ink ball pen for filling in all details on the answer sheet.
  7. Answer Sheet Details: Candidates must carefully fill in all particulars and sign the attendance sheet. Names should not be mentioned anywhere on the answer sheet.
  8. Prohibited Items: Carrying, possessing, using, or transferring any electronic device such as a Mobile phone, Smart Watch, Digital Watch, Micro Phone, Bluetooth instrument, Camera, Pager, etc., in the examination hall is strictly prohibited.
  9. Unfair Means: Any act of bringing books, notes, scribbled paper, communicating with other candidates, or smuggling answer sheets will result in immediate expulsion from the examination hall. The decision of the High Court regarding unfair means will be binding.

Question Booklet Instructions

  1. Content: The Question Booklet will contain 100 questions carrying 200 marks. All questions carry equal marks.
  2. Verification: Immediately after the commencement of the examination, candidates must check that the question booklet does not have any unprinted, torn, or missing pages or items. A complete question booklet will be provided as a replacement if necessary.
  3. No Replacement After Marking: Question booklets will not be replaced after marking answers.
  4. Encoding Booklet Series: Candidates must clearly encode the booklet series (A, B, C, or D) by completely shadowing the appropriate circle with a black ink ball pen in the answer sheet. If the shadowed circle does not match the booklet series provided, no marks will be allotted.
  5. Roll Number: Candidates must enter their roll number in the space provided in the question booklet.
  6. Answer Marking: Correct choices must be marked in the separate answer sheet provided.
  7. Instructions: Candidates must carefully peruse the instructions on the last page of the answer sheet.

Penalty for Wrong Answers

  • Deduction: For each wrong answer, one fourth of the marks assigned to that question (0.50 marks) will be deducted as a penalty.
  • Multiple Answers: If a candidate gives more than one answer for a question, it will be treated as a wrong answer, even if one of the given answers is correct, and the same penalty will apply.
  • Unanswered Questions: There will be no penalty for questions left blank.

Answer Sheet Instructions (Specific)

  • Use only a black ink ball pen to shadow the circles and fill in necessary details on the answer sheet and attendance sheet.
  • Write the name of the Examination on the answer sheet as "D.J. - 2024, MAH (10%)".
  • Write roll number, question booklet number, question booklet series, name of the examination, and sign at the appropriate places provided in the answer sheet.
  • The answer sheet is a carbonless OMR sheet. Answer sheet Part - II should not be separated until the conclusion of the examination.
  • Candidates are allowed to carry the question booklet with them after the examination. Answer sheet Part-2 can also be carried after carefully detaching it from the main answer sheet, which must be handed over to the Invigilator.
