Introduction

This notice outlines the examination process for Non-Technical Popular Categories (Under Graduate) under CEN No. 07/2025.

1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

This stage is common for all notified posts of CEN 07/2025.

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe).
  • Total Questions: 100 (each carrying 1 mark).
  • Subject-wise Distribution:
    • General Awareness: 40 Questions
    • Mathematics: 30 Questions
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 Questions
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Nature: Screening in nature. The standard of questions will generally conform to the educational standards prescribed for the posts.
  • Shortlisting: Normalized scores of the 1st Stage CBT will be used for shortlisting candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT based on merit. Candidates availing reservation benefits (OBC(NCL)/SC/ST/EWS, PwBD and ExSM) will continue to be considered under these categories in subsequent stages.

Syllabus for 1st Stage CBT

  • a. Mathematics:
    • Number System, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportions, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Elementary Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics etc.
  • b. General Intelligence and Reasoning:
    • Analogies, Completion of Number and Alphabetical Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Similarities and Differences, Relationships, Analytical Reasoning, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagrams, Puzzle, Data Sufficiency, Statement-Conclusion, Statement-Courses of Action, Decision Making, Maps, Interpretation of Graphs etc.
  • c. General Awareness:
    • Current Events of National and International Importance, Games and Sports, Art and Culture of India, Indian Literature, Monuments and Places of India, General Science and Life Science (up to 10th CBSE), History of India and Freedom Struggle, Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India and World, Indian Polity and Governance-constitution and political system, General Scientific and Technological Developments including Space and Nuclear Program of India, UN and Other important World Organizations, Environmental Issues Concerning India and World at Large, Basics of Computers and Computer Applications, Common Abbreviations, Transport Systems in India, Indian Economy, Famous Personalities of India and World, Flagship Government Programs, Flora and Fauna of India, Important Government and Public Sector Organizations of India etc.

Eligibility Percentage for 1st Stage CBT

  • UR: 40%
  • EWS: 40%
  • OBC (Non creamy layer): 30%
  • SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%
  • Relaxation: These percentages may be relaxed by 2 Marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved vacancies.

2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • Shortlisting: Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT will be shortlisted based on their normalized marks from the 1st Stage CBT. The total number of candidates to be shortlisted will be 15 times the community-wise vacancies. Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit.
  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe).
  • Total Questions: 120 (each carrying 1 mark).
  • Subject-wise Distribution:
    • General Awareness: 50 Questions
    • Mathematics: 35 Questions
    • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 35 Questions
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Shortlisting for Further Stages: Normalized marks from the 2nd Stage CBT will be used for shortlisting candidates for document verification (for posts without Typing Skill Test) or for the Typing Skill Test (for posts requiring it).

Normalization of Marks

Shortlisting of candidates for various stages will be based on normalized marks obtained whenever CBT is conducted in multiple sessions for the same syllabus.

Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST)

  • Applicability: For posts of Junior Clerk cum Typist & Accounts Clerk cum Typist.
  • Nature: Qualifying in nature; marks obtained will not be added for making merit.
  • Candidates Called: Eight times the number of vacancies for each community will be called.
  • Typing Speed: Candidates must be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English OR 25 WPM in Hindi on a Personal Computer, without editing tools and spell check facility.
  • Hindi Fonts: Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts will be available for Hindi typing.
  • Exemption: Exemption may be extended to candidates with permanent disabilities (Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy & Loco Motor Disability with not less than 40% permanent disability). Eligible PwBD candidates must upload a scanned copy of a Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate issued by the Competent Medical Board.
  • Merit: Merit will be drawn only for candidates qualified in the CBTST or CBTST exempted PwBD candidates based on performance in the 2nd Stage CBT.
