Pay Scale

  • Subedar (Stenographer): Rs. 36200 - 114800
  • Assistant Sub-Inspector (Stenographer): Rs. 19500 - 62000

Note: For the first three years of service, new appointees will receive 70%, 80%, and 90% respectively of the minimum pay scale. A Defined Contribution Pension Scheme will be applicable for those appointed after 2005-01-01.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality and Domicile

  • Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  • All reservations and age relaxations are strictly for Madhya Pradesh Domicile candidates.
  • Candidates from other states can only apply for Unreserved Open Category posts and will not receive any reservation or age relaxation benefits.

Age Limit (as on 2025-10-17)

  • Male (MP Unreserved/EWS): 33 years
  • Male/Female (Other States): 33 years
  • Female (All Categories - MP Domicile): 38 years
  • Male (Reserved Categories - SC/ST/OBC - MP Domicile): 38 years
  • Male (Govt/Corporation/Board/Autonomous Staff, Urban Soldier - MP Domicile): 38 years
  • Male (Unreserved & Reserved, Inter-caste marriage - MP Domicile): 38 years
  • Female (Unreserved & Reserved, Inter-caste marriage - MP Domicile): 43 years
  • Vikram Award Winners (MP Domicile): 5 years age relaxation (e.g., Male Unreserved: 38 years, Female All Categories: 43 years, Male Reserved: 43 years).
  • Ex-Servicemen (MP Domicile): Age relaxation equal to service period, provided the resulting age does not exceed the upper age limit by more than 3 years.
  • Note: If multiple age relaxations apply, the candidate will receive the maximum applicable benefit.

Educational Qualifications

1. Subedar (Stenographer)
  • Higher Secondary (Old System) or 10+2 system pass.
  • Shorthand (Stenography) at 100 words per minute (WPM) from a recognized board/institute.
  • CPCT certificate with Hindi typing proficiency.
  • OR DOEACC Diploma level examination pass.
  • OR One-year "COPA" certificate from a Government recognized ITI.
  • OR Modern Office Management course pass from a recognized Polytechnic/Institute/College/University.
  • OR Computer Diploma recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
2. Assistant Sub-Inspector (Stenographer)
  • Higher Secondary (10+2) system pass.
  • CPCT certificate with Hindi typing proficiency.
  • OR Engineering Degree / MCA / BCA / MSc (Computer Science / IT) pass.
  • OR AICTE approved Polytechnic Diploma pass.
  • OR DOEACC Diploma level examination pass.
  • OR One-year "COPA" certificate from a Government recognized ITI.
  • OR Modern Office Management course pass from a recognized Polytechnic/Institute/College/University.
  • OR Computer Diploma recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Note: There is no general relaxation in educational qualifications. However, in exceptional cases, the committee, on recommendation from the appointing authority, may consider equivalent qualifications from foreign universities.

Examination Plan

Stage 1: Written Examination (Online, MCQ)

  • Medium: Hindi
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Maximum Marks: 100
  • Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answer. No negative marking.
  • Subjects:
    • General Knowledge & Logical Reasoning: 40 Marks
    • Intellectual Ability & Mental Aptitude: 30 Marks
    • Science & Simple Arithmetic: 30 Marks
  • Selection for Stage 2: 7 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) will be called for the practical exam based on the written exam cut-off percentile. All candidates scoring at or above the cut-off will be called.

Stage 2: Document Verification & Practical Examination

  • Document Verification: Conducted by a selection committee formed by the Police Director General.
  • Practical Examination:
    • Conducted by a selection committee formed by the Police Director General.
    • Subedar (Stenographer): Hindi Shorthand (100 WPM, 5 mins dictation, 20 mins typing for each of two dictations). Total duration 1 hour.
    • Assistant Sub-Inspector (Stenographer): Hindi Typing (Two paragraphs of 600 words each, 30 mins each). Total duration 1 hour.
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks in Practical Exam: 30%.
    • Only typed material will be evaluated. No credit for pen/pencil work.

Note: No relaxation in physical standards will be granted.

Medical Standards

Medical examination will be conducted by the District Medical Board. Key criteria include:

  • Height Measurement.
  • Eyesight: No eye disease/disorder. Vision 6/9 (without glasses) in one eye and 6/12 (without glasses) in the other. Ability to distinguish main colors (Ishihara plates test).
  • No knock-knees or flat feet.
  • No physical disability.
  • An appeal process is available for candidates declared medically unfit.

Reservation Policy

  • Reservations are implemented as per the Madhya Pradesh Public Service (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1994.
  • Vertical Reservations: Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
    • Reservation percentages: UR 27%, OBC 27%, SC 16%, ST 20%, EWS 10%.
  • Horizontal Reservations: Separate horizontal reservations are provided for Females (35%) and Ex-Servicemen (10%) within each vertical category.
    • If suitable female/Ex-Servicemen candidates are not available, the posts will be filled by eligible "Open" candidates from that specific vertical category.
  • The Police Department is exempted from reservation for persons with disabilities as per MP Government memo dated 1995-04-04.

Important Instructions for Applicants

  • Aadhaar Registration: Mandatory for all applicants.
  • Photo ID: Original photo identity card (Voter ID, PAN, Aadhaar, Driving License, Passport, or Marksheet with photo) is mandatory for entry into the examination hall. Aadhaar verified by UIDAI is acceptable.
  • Biometric Verification: Aadhaar-based biometric verification is mandatory during entry to the examination hall and during the exam.
  • Prohibited Items: Electronic devices (mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, etc.), log tables, rough papers, and any form of cheat sheets are strictly prohibited in the examination hall.
  • Application Number: Candidates must preserve their online application number as it is essential for downloading admit cards and all future correspondence.
  • Document Verification (Provisional): The initial verification of documents during the application process is provisional. Final verification will be done by the recruiting department during the appointment process.
  • Character Verification: False or concealed information will lead to disqualification.
  • Probation Period: Appointed candidates will undergo a three-year probation period, followed by mandatory training.
  • Jurisdiction: Any legal disputes related to the examination will be under the jurisdiction of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
