Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET), 2025 - Application Information

This notification is issued by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) to inform all interested candidates about the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET), 2025. The test is being conducted for candidates aspiring to teach in secondary and higher secondary classes, as per the directives received from the Director, Secondary Education, Education Department, Bihar (Letter No. 09/Mu-05/2025 (Part) 473 dated 01.09.2025). Detailed information is provided below.

Examination Structure and Pattern

  • Structure:
    • All questions will be multiple-choice.
    • Each question carries 1 mark.
    • There will be no negative marking.
  • Question Paper Pattern:
    • The question paper will comprise 100 marks from the specified subject matter and 50 marks from teaching art and other competencies.
    • Total marks: 150.
  • Examination Duration:
    • The Computer-Based Test (CBT) for STET, 2025 will be 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes) long.
  • Normalization:
    • Competitive examinations conducted using the Computer Based Test (CBT) method, where the number of candidates is relatively high and the examination is conducted in multiple shifts/dates, will use the Normalization method to prepare results. This is to ensure fairness across varying difficulty levels of question papers.
    • The Normalized Score will be the candidate's final score and will determine their pass/fail status as per the qualifying percentages mentioned in section 7.
    • While there is no negative marking for incorrect answers, normalization might result in a negative impact on the Normalized Score if a significantly higher number of questions are answered incorrectly.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Citizenship:

    • Applicants must be citizens of India.
  • General Eligibility:

    • Candidates must meet the eligibility/qualification criteria as defined by the Bihar State School Teacher (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Action and Service Conditions) Rules, 2023 (as amended).
  • Educational/Professional Qualifications:

    • Educational and professional qualifications for Paper-I (Secondary) and Paper-II (Higher Secondary) will be as per Annexure-I and Annexure-II and the various departmental notifications related to Bihar State School Teacher Rules, 2023.

    For Paper-I (Secondary Education)

    • General Subjects (Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Maithili, Sanskrit, Arabic, Farsi, Bhojpuri, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science):
      • Graduation or Post-Graduation (or equivalent) from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in the specified subject/subject group, and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution.
      • Alternatively, Graduation or Post-Graduation (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks as per NCTE Regulations 2002 and 2007 (with B.Ed.).
      • Alternatively, a four-year B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed. degree in the specified subject/subject group from an NCTE recognized institution.
    • Music Subject:
      • Graduation (or equivalent) in Music from a recognized university/board/institution with at least 50% marks.
    • Fine Arts Subject:
      • Graduation (or equivalent) in Fine Arts from a recognized university/board/institution with at least 50% marks.
    • Dance Subject:
      • Graduation (or equivalent) in Dance from a recognized university/institution with at least 50% marks.
    • Special School Teacher:
      • Graduation from a recognized university with at least 50% marks AND a B.Ed. in Special Education from an RCI recognized institution with a valid CRR No.
      • OR a B.Ed. with a Certificate/Diploma in Special Education equivalent to B.Ed. from an RCI recognized institution with a valid CRR No.
      • AND a 6-month teaching training in Cross-Disability area (with relaxation if training not started by RCI).
    • Physical Education:
      • Graduation in Physical Education with 50% marks as an elective subject.
      • OR Graduation in Physical Education with 45% marks as an elective subject and participation in National/State/Inter-University sports/athletic competitions recognized by Association of Indian Universities or Indian Olympic Association.
      • OR Graduation with 45% marks and participation in National/State/Inter-University sports/athletic competitions.
      • OR In-service trained physical education teacher/coach with 45% marks in Graduation and at least 3 years of teaching experience as per RCI Regulations 2009.
      • OR Graduation in Physical Education with 45% marks.
      • OR Graduation in Physical Education with minimum 40% marks as an elective subject.
      • OR Graduation who participated in school/inter-collegiate sports/games or passed NCC 'C' certificate as per RCI Regulations, 2007.
      • OR 3-year Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) or equivalent.
      • OR Graduation who represented State/University in sports/games/athletics.
      • OR Graduation who secured 1st, 2nd, or 3rd position in inter-collegiate sports/games competitions or holds NCC 'C' certificate or passed basic course in adventurous sports.
      • OR Graduation with one-year training program in Sports Science, Sports Management, Sports Coaching, Yoga, Olympic Education, Sports Journalism etc., as per NCTE Regulations, 2002 AND a one-year B.P.Ed. (or equivalent) from an RCI recognized institution.

    For Paper-II (Higher Secondary Education)

    • General Subjects (Hindi, Urdu, English, Sanskrit, Bengali, Maithili, Magahi, Arabic, Farsi, Bhojpuri, Pali, Prakrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Home Science, Botany, Zoology, Commerce):
      • Post-Graduation from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in the specified subject/subject group, and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution.
      • Alternatively, Post-Graduation (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks as per NCTE Regulations 2002 and 2007 (with B.Ed.).
      • Alternatively, a B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks in the specified subject/subject group from an NCTE recognized institution.
      • Alternatively, a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in the specified subject.
    • Commerce Subject:
      • Post-Graduation in Commerce from a recognized university with at least 50% marks. Candidates with Post-Graduation in Commerce can apply for all three subjects of Commerce faculty, i.e., EPS (Entrepreneurship), Accountancy, and Business Studies.
    • Computer Science Subject:
      • Post-Graduation in Computer Science (MCA) or equivalent from a recognized university with at least 50% marks. B.Ed. qualification is not mandatory for Computer Science candidates.
      • Various alternative qualifications including 'A' level from DOEACC, B.E./B.Tech (CS/IT), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer, BCA with Post-Graduation in any subject, 'B' level from DOEACC, 'C' level from DOEACC, 3-year MCA (6 semesters).
    • Agriculture Subject:
      • Post-Graduation in Agriculture/Horticulture with at least 50% marks in any of the following subject groups: Agronomy/Plant Breeding & Genetics/Entomology/Plant Pathology/Seed Science & Technology/Soil Science/Horticulture.
    • Music Subject:
      • Post-Graduation (or equivalent) in Music from a recognized university/board/institution with at least 50% marks.
  • Subject Group Clarifications:

    • Mathematics: Graduation level, any two subjects from Physics/Electronics/Computer Science/Chemistry/Statistics, OR Engineering graduate with Mathematics specialization. BCA qualification in Computer Science is considered.
    • Science: Graduation level, any two subjects from Zoology (Animal Science), Botany (Plant Science), Chemistry, OR Engineering graduate with Science specialization. Biotechnology/Microbiology are also included.
    • Social Science: Graduation level, any two subjects from History, Geography, Economics, Political Science as subsidiary/honours subjects. History or Geography is mandatory. Ancient History is considered equivalent to History.
    • Language-related subjects: For Secondary School Teacher posts, candidates must have studied the language subject as an Honours/Subsidiary subject at Graduation level.
  • General Clarifications:

    • Any dispute regarding the recognition or equivalence of a degree in teaching and training will be decided by the department in consultation with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
    • Separate examinations will be held for Music, Dance, and Fine Arts under Paper-I.
    • For Physical Education, only Paper-I will be conducted, and eligibility will be determined as per section 2 of Annexure-I.

Age Limit and Relaxation

  • Minimum Age:
    • Candidates must be at least 21 years old as of 01.08.2025.
  • Maximum Age:
    • The maximum age limit will be as prescribed by the State Government (General Administration Department) from time to time.

  • Relaxation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD):
    • PwD candidates will receive a 10-year age relaxation in the maximum age limit.
  • Relaxation for Ex-Servicemen:
    • Ex-servicemen will receive a 3-year age relaxation in addition to their service period in defense, provided their actual age does not exceed 57 years at the time of application.
  • No Age Relaxation for Trained Candidates in STET 2025:
    • Since STET was conducted in 2023 and 2024 for all subjects in secondary/higher secondary syllabus, trained candidates in STET 2025 will not be granted any age relaxation.

Passing Marks

  • The passing marks for Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test, 2025 will be as follows:

  • Note on Reservation: Reservation benefits (including age relaxation, minimum passing marks, and exam fee concession) will only be available to permanent residents of Bihar. Candidates from outside Bihar will be treated as General category applicants.

Application Process

  • Important Dates:
    • Online application and examination fee submission will be accepted from 11.09.2025 (afternoon) to 19.09.2025.
  • Examination Fee:
    • For Paper-I OR Paper-II (Any One Paper):
      • General/Economically Weaker Section (EWS)/Backward Class (BC)/Extremely Backward Class (EBC): INR 960/-
      • Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disabilities (PwD): INR 760/-
    • For Paper-I AND Paper-II (Both Papers):
      • General/EWS/BC/EBC: INR 1440/-
      • SC/ST/PwD: INR 1140/-
  • How to Apply:
    • Candidates must visit the official websites: https://secondary.biharboardonline.com/ and https://biharboardonline.com/.
    • Click on "Online Apply: STET EXAM, 2025".
    • The application process involves three steps: (A) Registration, (B) Form Filling, and (C) Payment.
      • Registration: Fill in required information on the registration page and click "Generate OTP". After entering OTP, registration will be complete. User ID and Password will be sent via SMS to the registered mobile number.
      • Form Filling: Log in with User ID and Password. Fill personal and academic details.
      • Uploading Photograph and Signature:
        • Scanned color photograph size: 80 KB to 200 KB, dimensions 3.5cm x 4.5cm.
        • Scanned signature size: 50 KB to 200 KB.
        • Photograph should be recent, with a white or light-colored background, and the candidate's eyes and face clearly visible. No caps, hats, or dark glasses are allowed.
      • Fee Payment: After filling the form, select "Online Payment" and choose a payment gateway (Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI).
  • Documents to Upload (Self-Attested Copies):
    • Matric (10th) certificate and mark sheet (for Date of Birth).
    • Intermediate (12th) certificate and mark sheet.
    • Graduation certificate and mark sheet.
    • Post-Graduation certificate and mark sheet.
    • B.Ed. certificate and mark sheet.
    • Other academic qualifications (if any).
    • Domicile certificate issued by competent authority.
    • Caste certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST candidates.
    • Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate issued by competent authority for EBC/BC candidates (Note: For married women, the caste/NCL certificate must be issued in the name of her father, not husband).
    • Valid PwD certificate issued by competent authority in prescribed format (if applicable).
    • Ex-servicemen certificate to avail age relaxation benefit (if applicable).
  • Important Instructions for Application:
    • Candidates are advised to carefully review all details in the online application form using the "Preview" button before final submission. If any errors are found, click "Save" to make corrections using their User ID and Password before the last date of application. No requests for modifications will be entertained after final submission.
    • No application will be accepted through any mode other than online.
    • It is essential for candidates to fill the online application form themselves. Incomplete or multiple applications will lead to rejection/cancellation.
    • Providing incorrect details or uploading false documents will result in cancellation of the application and result.
    • Using CAPITAL LETTERS for declarations and signatures on the application form is prohibited.

Validity of Certificates

  • The pass certificates for Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test, 2025 will have lifelong validity.

General Instructions

  • In case of any discrepancy in any point of the notification, the decision/order of the Education Department will be considered final.
