Introduction

Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for Apprenticeship Training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprenticeship Rules, 1962, in various units of North Eastern Railway.

Total Slots: 1104

The following units have vacancies for Apprenticeship Training:

  • Mechanical Workshop/Gorakhpur: 390 slots
  • Signal Workshop/Gorakhpur Cantt: 63 slots
  • Bridge Workshop /Gorakhpur Cantt: 35 slots
  • Mechanical Workshop/ Izzatnagar: 142 slots
  • Diesel Shed / Izzatnagar: 60 slots
  • Carriage & Wagon /Izzatnagar: 64 slots
  • Carriage & Wagon / Lucknow Jn: 149 slots
  • Diesel Shed / Gonda: 88 slots
  • Carriage & Wagon/Varanasi: 73 slots
  • TRD Varanasi: 40 slots

Reservation

  • Divyang (PwBD): 4% reservation.
  • Ex-Servicemen & Wards of Ex-Servicemen & Armed Forces Personnel: 3% reservation from their community (UR/SC/ST/OBC).
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 10% reservation from their community (UR).

Age Limit (as on 2025-10-16)

  • Minimum Age: 15 years
  • Maximum Age: 24 years
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST candidates: 5 years
    • OBC candidates: 3 years
    • Divyang candidates: Maximum 10 years

Essential Qualifications (as on 2025-10-16)

Candidates must have passed High School/10th with a minimum of 50% marks and possess an ITI certificate in the notified trade from a recognized board/institute.

Physical Standards

Selected candidates will be required to submit a Medical Certificate in the prescribed format, issued by an authorized Medical Officer, during document verification. Eligibility for Divyang candidates will be governed by Railway Board guidelines. Detailed standards for physical fitness are provided in Schedule-II of the notification.

Processing Fee

  • Fee: Rs. 100/-
  • Exemptions: SC/ST/Divyang (PwBD)/Female candidates are exempted from payment of processing fee.

Mode of Application

Applications and processing fees must be submitted online through the N. E. Railway's website: www.ner.indianrailways.gov.in. Candidates should ensure eligibility before applying.

Mode of Selection

Selection will be based on a merit list prepared by taking the average percentage of marks obtained in both Matriculation (with minimum 50% aggregate marks) and the ITI examination, with equal weightage given to both. Candidates may opt for more than one unit/place. Document verification will be conducted at Gorakhpur, requiring original certificates, testimonials, online application copy, medical certificate, and 4 passport-sized photographs. Apprentice training will commence at the allotted Division/Unit.

Training & Stipend

Training will be provided according to the standards and syllabus prescribed by the Central Apprenticeship Council, subject to registration with RDAT/Kanpur. Stipend will be paid at prescribed rates as per extant rules/instructions.

Disclaimer

Act apprentices undergoing training in Railway establishments will not have any claim to seek employment on Railways based on such training.

Other Conditions

  • Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
  • Candidates called for Document Verification are not eligible for any Travelling/Dearness Allowances, lodging, or fooding expenses.
  • Engineering Graduates and Diploma holders are not eligible for apprenticeship under this notification.
  • Apprenticeship is subject to registration with RDAT/Kanpur.
  • Selected candidates must execute a Contract of Apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Minors will require a parent/guardian to execute the contract.
  • Discontinuation of apprenticeship without valid reasons will require refunding the stipend paid, training costs, and other determined costs.
  • Candidature is liable to be canceled if false declarations are made or if candidates fail to adhere to Railway rules and regulations. The decision of the Railway Administration will be final.

Communication & Information Publication

All official communications and notices will be published on the N. E. Railway's website: www.ner.indianrailways.gov.in. No individual call letters will be issued. While SMS/Email may be sent, candidates are advised to visit the NER website regularly. Document verification schedules will be published on the website at short notice.
