UPTET Primary Level (Class 1 to 5) Exam Structure

  • Exam Level: Primary Level (for classes 1 to 5)
  • Exam Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes)
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with four options and one correct answer.
  • Marking Scheme: Each question carries 1 mark.
  • Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking.

Detailed Syllabus

I. Child Development & Teaching Methods (30 Questions)

a) Child Development

  • Meaning, need, and scope of child development; stages of child development (physical, mental, emotional, language development); development of expression ability, creativity, and creative ability.
  • Factors influencing child development - heredity, environment (family, social, school, communication media).

b) Meaning and Principles of Learning

  • Meaning of learning (acquiring knowledge), influencing factors, effective methods of learning.
  • Thorndike's laws of learning and their importance.
  • Major theories of learning and their practical utility in classroom teaching: Thorndike's Trial and Error Theory, Pavlov's Classical Conditioning Theory, Skinner's Operant Conditioning Theory, Kohler's Insight Theory, Piaget's Theory, Vygotsky's Theory. Learning curve - meaning and types, plateau in learning - meaning, causes, and remedies.

c) Teaching and Teaching Methods

  • Meaning and purpose of teaching, communication, principles of teaching, maxims of teaching, teaching methods, new approaches to teaching (strategies), micro-teaching, and basic teaching skills.

d) Inclusive Education - Guidance & Counseling

  • Meaning, identification, types, and remediation for educationally included children from deprived sections, different languages, religions, castes, regions, genders, and those with physical disabilities (visual, auditory, speech/orthopedic impairments), and mental disabilities.
  • Essential tools, materials, methods, TLM, and attitudes for inclusion.
  • Necessary tools and techniques for assessing the learning of included children.
  • Special teaching methods for included children, e.g., Braille script.
  • Guidance and counseling for included children: meaning, purpose, types, methods, needs, and scope.
  • Supporting departments/institutions in counseling: Psychology Laboratory UP Prayagraj, Divisional Psychology Centers, District Hospitals, DIET mentors, etc.

e) Learning and Pedagogy

  • How children think and learn; why and how children 'fail' to achieve success in school performance.
  • Basic processes of teaching and learning; children’s strategies of learning; learning as a social activity; social context of learning.
  • Child as a problem solver and a 'scientific investigator'.
  • Alternative conceptions of learning in children; understanding children's 'errors' as significant steps in the learning process.

II. Language I: Hindi (30 Questions)

a) Content

  • Antonyms, synonyms, rhyming, non-rhyming, and words with similar sounds.

  • Prefix, Suffix, Tatsam, Tadbhav, Deshaj words.
  • Idioms and Proverbs.
  • Sandhi (Vowel, Consonant, Visarga).
  • Vachya, Samas, and Alankar.
  • Works of poets and writers.

IV. Language II: Urdu (30 Questions)

a) Content

  • Unseen Passage.
  • Knowledge of linguistic skills of the language.
  • Information about the life and works of famous writers and poets.
  • Understanding different genres of literature like essays, short stories, elegies, masnavis, etc.
  • Correct spelling and pronunciation practice.
  • Knowledge of noun, pronoun, adjective, antonyms, singular, plural, masculine, feminine, etc.
  • Figures of speech (Tashbih, Isti'ara, Talmih, etc.).
  • Knowledge of idioms and proverbs.
  • Understanding various social issues like environmental pollution, gender inequality, illiteracy, etc.
  • Understanding social and moral values present in poems, stories, and memoirs.

V. Language II: Sanskrit (30 Questions)

a) Content

  • Unseen Passage.
  • Nouns: Akarant Pulling, Akarant Striling, Akarant Napunsakling, etc.
  • Introduction to Sanskrit names of household items, family, surroundings, animals, birds.
  • Pronouns.
  • Verbs.
  • Use of Sanskrit words for major body parts.
  • Indeclinables (Avyay).
  • Sandhi: Simple words and their separation (Long vowel sandhi).
  • Numbers: Knowledge of numbers in Sanskrit.
  • Gender, number, pratyahar, types of vowels, types of consonants, anusvara, and anunasik consonants.
  • Vowel, consonant, and visarga sandhi, samas, prefix, synonyms, antonyms, karak, pratyay, and vachya.
