Introduction of Sliding Mechanism for Qualifying Candidates

NOTIFICATIONAdded: 3 Mar 2026SSC

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is introducing a Sliding Mechanism for the allocation of posts/departments to successful candidates to address the issue of numerous vacancies remaining unfilled each year.

Objective of the Sliding Mechanism

The primary goals of this new mechanism are:

  • To ensure maximum filling of vacancies within a given examination cycle.
  • To provide fair and merit-based opportunities to candidates.
  • To minimize unfilled vacancies resulting from selected candidates not joining their allotted posts.
  • To establish a single round of reallocation for unutilized vacancies.

Process of Allocation

  1. First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA): An initial allocation will be made based on the options submitted by candidates, similar to the current practice.
  2. Identity Verification (IV): To confirm the tentative allocation, candidates must visit the respective Regional Director (RD) Office of the SSC to complete Identity Verification (IV) through Aadhar Authentication.
  3. FIX or FLOAT Option: During the IV stage, candidates must choose one of two options:
    • FIX: This option confirms the acceptance of the tentatively allotted post. The candidate will not be considered for any further upgradation.
    • FLOAT: This option indicates the candidate's willingness to be considered for upgradation to a post of higher preference if a vacancy becomes available.

Sliding Round and Final Allotment

  • The SSC will conduct a single sliding round of allocation for candidates who chose the 'FLOAT' option. This reallocation will be based on merit-cum-preference, using vacancies that arise from candidates who are absent during the IV process.
  • There will be no waiting list or additional rounds of reallocation.
  • An updated final result with the revised post allotment will be issued. This final result will be binding on all stakeholders.

Important Conditions

  • FIX Option: Candidates who opt for 'FIX' are not eligible for upgradation. If they do not join the allotted post, the vacancy will be carried forward to the next recruitment cycle.
  • FLOAT Option: Candidates who opt for 'FLOAT' and are upgraded to a new post must join the newly allotted post. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of both the previously and newly allocated posts.
  • IV Window: A limited window of approximately 10 days will be provided for shortlisted candidates to complete their IV and exercise the FIX/FLOAT options. Candidates who fail to appear within this window will be marked as 'Absent' and will not be considered for further processing.

A detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) on this matter will be published by the commission in due course.
