The Government of India, Ministry of Railways, through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), has announced a detailed centralized employment notification (CEN No. 09/2025) for the recruitment of various posts in Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed 10th class or possess an ITI from institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT, or hold a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.

Age Limit (as on 01.01.2026)

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 33 years

Age relaxation is applicable for various categories as per government norms.

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process will consist of the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  3. Document Verification (DV)
  4. Medical Examination (ME)

Examination Pattern

Computer Based Test (CBT)

The CBT will be a single-stage objective-type test.

  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates using a scribe).
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Syllabus:

  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, etc.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation, etc.
  • General Science: Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences of the 10th standard level (CBSE).
  • General Awareness on Current Affairs: Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics, and other subjects of importance.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Passing the PET is mandatory and it will be qualifying in nature. The criteria are as follows:

Gender Task 1 Task 2
Male Lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down. Run for a distance of 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance.
Female Lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down. Run for a distance of 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

Note: Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are exempted from appearing for PET.

How to Apply

  1. Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the official websites of the RRBs.
  2. Candidates must create an account on the portal.
  3. Fill in the application form with correct details.
  4. A live photograph of the candidate will be captured during the application process.
  5. Upload scanned copies of the required documents (e.g., signature, caste certificate for travel pass).
  6. Pay the application fee through online modes (Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Card, UPI).
  7. Candidates are advised to submit their applications well before the closing date to avoid any last-minute rush.
