The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for Grade “C” Stenographers for the year 2025. This examination is for making additions to the Select List of Grade "C" Stenographers in various Services/Cadres of the Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria

The crucial date for counting of approved service is 01.07.2025. Eligibility varies by service:

  • Central Secretariat (CSSS), Railway Board, Indian Foreign Service (IFS-B): Generally requires not less than six years' approved service in Grade 'D'. Five years for those appointed through competitive exams.
  • Armed Forces HQ (AFHQ), Election Commission of India (ECI): Requires not less than three years' approved and continuous service in Grade 'D'. Two years for those appointed through competitive exams.
  • Central Vigilance Commission (CVC): Five years of regular service in the grade of Stenographer Grade 'D'.
  • Computer Literacy: Candidates for most services are required to be able to transcribe shorthand notes on computers.

Scheme of Examination

The examination will consist of three parts:

Part-A: Computer Based Examination (200 Marks)

  • The paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice.
  • There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Part-B: Shorthand Skill Test (200 Marks) Candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes at a speed of 100 w.p.m. The transcription time is as follows:

Part-C: Evaluation of Service Record (100 Marks) Evaluation of the Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs) of candidates who qualify in the other stages.

Application Procedure

  1. Candidates must apply online through the official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in.
  2. A One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website is mandatory.
  3. After online submission, a printed copy of the application, along with necessary documents, must be forwarded by the respective Service/Organisation/Cadre Controlling Authority to "The Regional Director, Staff Selection Commission (Northern Region), Block No.12, C.G.O. Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003" to reach by 27.01.2026 (or 03.02.2026 for specific remote areas).

Examination Centre

The examination will be conducted in Delhi only.
